It's great how we're gritting our teeth and getting on with things. We had Evans, Winchester and Batth back today who can all make a contribution ... ... other teams just don't have our depth and we should just keep plugging away.
Poor 1st half, lots better 2nd. Good goal by Embleton but his dead ball kicks were poor. Good debut by Batth, I reckon him or Doyle MoM. Flanagan was hot and cold. We nicked a one nil win by keeping a clean sheet! Long may it continue.
Wycombe threw away a lead to a team in the relegation places and lost. MK Dons lost at home to the bottom club. Sheff Wed lost the lead twice at Oxford and trudged home with no points. Plymouth lost a lead, at home to Lincoln, and finished outside the play-offs. Sunderland came back from some terrible recent results to end the day joint top. It's a funny old game
Very poor 1st half just never really got going. Pompey pushed us back but we lacked urgency. Much better 2nd half controlled the game for large parts. Doyle was immense Batth very solid Dajuka ran himself into the ground and an excellent performance from corry Evans who does the dirty work simply allowing others to get forward and create. Important 3 points not to worried about the performance. Winning is what matters at this time.
Winning when you don’t play particularly well is always a good sign. Like I say I don’t care how the points are won as long as we get them and get out of this league.
If we had everyone fit there would be 4 or 5 decent players not making the 18 on match day. No other club in the league can compete with that.
Well my Dad couldn’t go today as he’s been poorly this week. Offered the ticket to my boy (17) and he was there with me. First time in 5 years+. Got right behind the lads He’s a Man U fan and gas been fir some time but still feels close to SAFC. I thoroughly enjoyed having him there with me. Delighted
I'll try my best to explain but, bear in mind, I had a celebration Stella after our goal ... ... and every tackle, header and throw in plus the final whistle My point is that a fair few people are saying we were shocking/abysmal/shyte or whatever in the first half. I disagree, purely from my opinion, but also from the facts. I just don't see how it's shyte to defend well, prevent goal attempts and create chances. Portsmouth are entitled to have a decent spell and it came in the first 30 minutes ... ... big deal, didn't trouble the keeper and we created the better chances. Being the better team is a matter of perspective, more possession/energy/passes is fine but it's all pointless if it gets you nowhere.
Aiden O'Brien became a First time dad before the game last week -worried about the missus -no sleep -no rumpy pumpy
We played well off the ball, stopped them creating much but the first 30 minutes had a similar pattern to some our recent performances where our best footballers couldn't control or pass a ball. Neil, Embleton inparticular were guilty of this. Much better from then on though. All in all we deserved 3 points as they didn't really do anything. Even when we weren't so good we still created the games best chance up until that point
Kind of agree with this to be fair. They literally created nothing all day. Think most are saying we were ****e first half as we literally couldn't get out for the first half an hour if we gained possession we gave it away almost instantly. We got 3 or 4 good opportunities from pressing there defenders and forcing them into mistakes 1 of which we scored from. 2nd half we had a lot more control of the game but similar to them first half created absolutely nowt. Can't remember a shot on target 2nd half but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. The game was awful I think we can all probably agree on that but I don't think we were ****e as defensively we were solid and we took a chance when it came along. If we can have those types of games with the same result another 4 or 5 times this season I'll take them over the thrilling 3-3 draw with Wycombe.
