Vestergaard had 3 or 4 months for us out of 3 seasons? where he was very good, the rest of the time he wasn't even average, he was poor. Really wasn't upset about selling him, nor losing Bertrand on a free, albeit he gave us many years of good service, we all knew he was well past his best. And KWP on the right had shown us that we needed a much more dynamic leftback than Bertrand (at his age now). Shows just how clueless and uninformed the media is that they were saying how much we would struggle having sold off 2 of our 4 starting defenders when we all knew we needed to be looking to improving on them anyway. And we had already given Salisu a year to adjust to the English game out of the limelight. The strangest part for me was that Leicester, a team higher than us in the league, with actual money to spend and ambition wanted to buy them.
The Vesty thread on https://www.foxestalk.co.uk is comedy gold e.g "I don't know whether this goes in here or the stadium plans thread....Vestergaard has just lodged a request with the council for planning permission to turn 180 degrees"
Lol that forum is comedy gold. Let's face it we know how it feels and secretly are glad it was them They jus need a 9-0 hammering to get the full Saints experience with Vesty.
What I mainly notice from that forum is the sheer volume of posts on their threads compared to here and SW. It seems exponentially higher and I didn’t think their fanbase was *that* much higher
Surely the sort of fans that would glom on after they won the league would have ditched them by now? Aside from maybe a few that were at the stage of picking their first team and having real loyalty Doesn’t seem like it would fully explain the gap to me. But maybe
To say tonight's game is massive is an understatement. I was a bit shocked to see that Norwich will be out of the bottom 3 with a win, albeit having played more games than their rivals. I'm actually looking forward to it, should be plenty of drama.
Generally we’ve just got pretty shocking support. Fans don’t attend games, ground is rarely full (apart tomorrow ….. wonder why that is?), always moaning there or here & across the board. We’re a PL club & should be at close to capacity every week. That tells the story, imho.
I couldn't believe how empty the ground was against Brentford. The announced attendance was higher than the reality too I'm pretty sure. Looked more like 24k.
Forums in general are just not that popular anymore. A lot of the traffic that was once on them is now on Twitter, or Reddit, etc. So a busy forum could mean a larger fanbase, or it could just mean that the other avenues for talking about that team suck for whatever reason, so they've remained with forums. I've modded a baseball team forum for, I dunno, a decade or more. People there frequently lament how dead it is compared to years past, but we're apparently still the biggest/second biggest Jays forum in existence (despite being an order of magnitude less busy than it once was). And it definitely isn't because the team's fanbase has shrunk; it was busy when the team was a trash fire that struggled to get to one-third stadium capacity, and now it's slow when the team packs the building. It's just that no one younger than 30 is using a message board.
I used to go every week with a season ticket in the lower leagues, but PL is simply too expensive for me now days. From Wokingham to Southampton then tickets and grub etc on top it ends up costing too much a season. Guess a lot are in the same boat
I wasn’t having a go at any individuals but at end of day we don’t fill our stadium & others do (I don’t want to get into all the whys & wherefores & comparisons) but we should do much better. Full stadium, “should” create a better more passionate atmosphere.
