The definition of madness is doing the same and expecting a different outcome.

Ha possibly. But Howe keeps doing the same. At what point will he realise that 4-4-1-1 or 4-4-2 with Shelvey and Lascelles is never going to work.

Preparing for the Leeds game. Getting the first team used to having young players running them ragged.

I am with Tash on this. He is definitely not a defensive midfielder. He gave the ball away in some stupid positions on Saturday. We looked at our best when he and Longstaff were pushed forward on Saturday. We were at our worst when they all sat back.

Think we will win this one and @Roland Deschain’s head will explode.

    That’s my prediction.

Can't agree sorry he wins the ball and finds passes.. He needs players in front of him though. Box to box he can do cm and dm if required

    Don't care:emoticon-0173-middl.

Think its actually our definitions of those types of players. I think of a defensive midfielder as one who sits back and is effectively helping out the back four. It's part of our problem that we don't have one, as we have been playing back 5's for so long that it would have overloaded the defensive side of the team. Probably the closest we have to one of those is a Hayden but he is not a good example. A great example of one would be Roy Keane.

For me Joelinton doesn't have the awareness of a defensive midfielder. He is playing great at the moment and Howe has found the right spot for him but when him and ASM get the ball deep my heart is in my mouth as both have a tendency to try things they shouldn't to close to our goal.

Keane was box to box rather than defensive, in my opinion of course

He was a very dynamic player but his first responsibility was defence. That to me is the mark of a good defensive midfielder. If a defensive midfielder was just going to sit in front of the defence he would just be an extra defender!
