My computer now says I can download the new one now.
Question: has anyone downloaded yet, if so how long did it take, should I download now or wait 'til all the glitches are out?
I'm not tech savvy so please be gentle, thank you.

I loaded it a week or so ago onto our main computer over a few hours. No problems encountered since - I am at the lower end of the tech savvy spectrum.

I'm on a MAC and always reluctant to download upgrades. Ive had Mojave sat on my desktop waiting to be downloaded for a year or more. I work on the 'if it aint broke dont fix it' school of IT...

How long it takes can vary, depending on broadband speed (a bit) and processor power (a lot). It’s worth doing though, I like the way 11 is similar to 10 but tidier.

I also downloaded a week ago and am not tech savvy. It was pretty quick to download, no glitches so far and is much tidier.

    DO NOT DOWNLOAD IT

It sync’s to all local 5G transmitters and will make your laptop send coronavirus around your network to be transmitted by your Wi-Fi. You have been warned.

Take Windows off, install Linux - I should have done it years before I did.

What's the current favoured distro? Still Mint?

I don't use either these days, other than on my work laptop. There's nothing I can't do on my phone now.

Having said that, I used to run a Linux distro in a VM on my phone back in the day so I could host an ssh server. I just run a Synology box now which I remote into with my phone, which is much easier.

Still the Mint distro - it's stable as, bug-free and packed with more free software than the majority of internet users will ever need. **** Microsoft!

My computer says it can't have Windows 11
Mind you it came with 8, and was upgraded to 10
    I preferred 7

im fed up of every 5 years or so "upgrading" to the latest windows. so ive sat tight for a while and just gone from windows 98 SE straight to windows 12.
not much difference really. the mouse and keyboard look the same.... took me 16 weeks to download on my 56k modem cos i kept getting phone calls. im gonna keep on top of things from now on and keep my pc nice and tidy with less of the usual clutter. ive heard malwarebytes is the best to run hand in hand with microsoft defender in keeping windows clean.
    i'm still on windowlene.

being serious i think win xp was my fave and would still be on it now if i hadnt died in 2003

Thankfully my laptop won't run Windows 11, that's another pointless decision I don't have to make. :emoticon-0148-yes:

is it a tpm problem? some motherboards have tpm disabled in the bios and a quick enable and you are good to go. that was my problem. my "older" family pc has a slot for a tpm module (£10 off ebay?) but the ones for my mobo need ddr4. im on ddr3. dunno if i can be arsed. where's pcworks when you need him?

the biggest thing is support is gonna end for win 10 in 2025 and you may get a few more years worth of usability.
most of us on here will be dead by then.

Get a Mac. I'm typing this on a machine bought in 2012 - replaced the HDD with a SDD a few years back, maxed the memory and it still runs like a dream. Does everything I need it to - Microsoft Office suite, email, internet, photo & music management, watching iplayer etc. And as it's so old it still has a DVD player so I can watch them too (27" screen). Cracking investment.
