I refer you to the core of the debate once again. I credited when results were good and criticised when they were not. Others couldn't manage that and now sit there telling me I'm not being fair??? You're all brighter than this
T T T All day long. Howe is doing his bit IMHO... the players are that far gone due to Bruce they aren't up to it.
That's true we've been bad, but the point is that I have every right to ask questions of Howe after 1 win in 10 and I will absolutely credit him if and when results improve. I am not going to refuse him credit and bash him just because I have a personal issue with him.
Steve's start was ok but not great: https://www.themag.co.uk/2019/11/st...r-12-mike-ashley-seasons-at-newcastle-united/
Here's the thing JJ Bruce was being bullied and mocked not the players. Now it's all just the players? Why not just credit managers when results are good? It's mental gymnastics
To be honest and I know its an unpopular opinion, I have more sympathy with Bruce than ever before. I don't think Bruce has necessarily done this. Its just years and years and years of underinvestment catching up with us. Its not our first time at this rodeo sadly. Still a **** manager.
I'm feeling reasonable.. How about everyone just agrees that It's OK for me to criticise poor results and credit good ones? If you all do that then you can perform all the mental gymnastics you like without me calling you out into oblivion? Deal?
He wasn't likeable and I stand by what I said about him on arrival. Poor manager and cheap option. Typical Ashley signing. I just can't get away from the fact that managers, whoever they are, would find it a tough gig with these players, and also this scouting network. I still maintain the PL has ****ed us by not allowing the takeover to happen in the summer. The transfer market would have been a different ball game, the managerial situation would have been a different ball game, the scouting network revamp would have been a different ball game. We are where we are and the owners/Eddie Howe have been dumped in the eye of a **** storm. That's my personal opinion. It is what it is and we may well find ourselves having to do our time in the championship next season. The future is still bright and this great club will rise again.
We'd have had Rafa if it went through in the summer which you and a few others are completely against
The future is bright, but Howe was brought in to get results. He needs to start getting them. No excuses and even he's said it himself that results aren't good enough and I respect him for that. Bruce would've sat there saying he was doing well and it was all rafas fault.
Results haven't been terrible either though. But he's right the margins are tight at this level. We needed to turn a couple of those draws into wins. Any way we could regardless how poor the players are. Its not easy but Eddie has been straight up since he come in, tried to get them playing better football and at least we have a system now. We must kick on. Being unbeaten against the sides we should be is a start. However the lack of wins means we now need to pick up some unexpected results along the way. We will see who comes in over the next two weeks and that will tell us if we have a chance. This squad isn't good enough to stay up and doesn't deserve to. You could stick Pep in charge, it wouldn't turn it around.
And my position is the same ill credit when it's due. It's a credit to me what can I say. Were the fans saying this squad isn't good enough to stay up while blasting Steve even after wins?
No they weren't and there are certainly a few who have flip flopped in that regard. I will say though we look a better side under Howe to be fair to them. People are emotional about their clubs and give a **** so its fairly normal.
So you've now brought in a 3rd position which is to offer the manager support even when results are poor I can't think of anyone that did that for Bruce. me crediting good results and not crediting bad results is a fair position?
It all depends what stage of their tenure they are at, what the background is etc. Rafa and Bruce it was fairly easy to make a comparison after 2 full seasons each brought similar results. Both suffered from the same underinvestment. Howe on the other hand has picked up the poisoned chalice, and has at least given the team some structure. He now needs to be furnished with a few players and get results. We will never be able to compare Bruce or Rafa with Howe. Different owners. Howe has had 71 days and picked up a team with confidence at an all time low. He hasn't had a pre season. Multitude of factors. However football is now a results driven industry and no one is arsed about the various factors involved. So no its probably not a fair way of looking at it, but he's a big boy he knows the game. He needs to get some results. The club needs to bring in players. Simple as that.
