Yeah, just got to hope we don't end up with another Alderweireld situation. It's not a bad thing, having this sort of relationship with Chelsea, though. They always like to sell their youth players, because they have so many and it generates them with funds to go for big names like Lukaku.

I agree with the sentiment. Am really looking forward to watching him play. I like the idea of him playing alongside Tella and Theo.

Yes, shame we haven’t signed him. He’s here to play first team football, so if he is successful, it’s unlikely we’ll be able to retain. Never know tho.

Tbh we can’t really look to the future or plan anything long term under the current ownership/business model. Any player we bring in who turns out good will want to go as we won’t be able to afford to pay them enough to keep them when their contract is up. We will have them for a couple of years then they move on.

We are just looking season to season atm and what will give us our best chance of staying up and hopefully this guy can help with that

The question is if it looks like we'll sign him, do we create a sequel or stick with this thread?

Now I’ve bumped this one we may as well stick with it. If it’s a permanent deal I’ll amend the title.

Imagine if we did sign him on a permanent deal and then he scored a hat-trick against Chelsea at St Mary's. <laugh>

Or even just a winning goal

In the short term I’d settle for reading the meltdown of the Chelsea glory hunters online if the fee is in the 20m region. They will lose their minds.

It will also be interesting to see how they would explain “Tuchel loves him and wanted him this season and definitely wants him next season”.

I'd be quite astounded if we got him for as cheap as £20Million.. we could finally forget about the last £20Million January flop.. wonder what rhe buy back would be set at? I'd be relatively happy with £50M

So who are you benchmarking his potential fee against then that would make 20m be “astounding”? Not saying it won’t be much higher - but if it is then I’m pretty sure we can’t really go to that and there won’t be any noise about a permanent signing (which of course might be the conclusion at the end of the week )
