‘Send him home’: Poll reveals overwhelming support for decision to deport Novak Djokovic

the federal government decision on Friday to cancel the Serbian’s visa for the second time after a court favoured Djokovic last week.

Should he stay or should he go?
Do you think Novak Djokovic should be allowed to stay in Australia to play tennis when unvaccinated or not?

No, he should not be allowed to stay and play (71%)
Yes, he should be allowed to stay and play (14%)
I do not care if he is allowed in to play while unvaccinated or not (15%)
    % of all 1607 respondents.
Source: Resolve Political Monitor (Resolve Strategic). Poll conducted on January 9, 2022 with a sample size of 1607.

The 34-year-old was taken into immigration detention on Saturday afternoon ahead of a Federal Court hearing Sunday morning. The star appeared calm and composed, wearing a green tracksuit pants and jumper with a white face mask, as he was driven in by a white sedan.

Nadal and other leading players have lamented how the visa saga had overshadowed the start of the Australian Open this Monday, with the Spanish great warning not one player in the history of tennis is above the sport itself.

With Prime Minister Scott Morrison declaring that health rules had to be applied, the poll results show strong majority support for the government position among Labor, Coalition and uncommitted voters.

Djovokic’s legal team sought an injunction against the decision by Immigration Minister Alex Hawke on Friday night to cancel his visa for the second time, with the matter to be argued again on Sunday just hours before the tournament begins.

The government is expected to insist that Mr Hawke has broad powers under the law to refuse a visa for someone who is not vaccinated, in this case citing the importance of health and safety as well as the wider public interest during the pandemic.

The strongest support for Djokovic came from voters who sided with the United Australia Party, which was set up by mining magnate Clive Palmer and campaigns against pandemic restrictions and mandatory vaccinations.

Among this group, 38 per cent wanted the tennis star to stay while 31 per cent said he should leave and 31 per cent did not care. This is a small group, however, given the relatively low primary vote for the UAP.

Update - Court ruling for Novaxx to be deported.

l think the decision is a just ruling that people need to respect others and their rules. No one is bigger than the sport.

    Here we go again.

Source please Ellers...as my reaction is just no.

( and remember death certificate have places for all contributing factors).

A very close friend of mine...died of a heart attack after getting covid. Went into hospital, put on ventilation and died whilst under an induced coma of a heart atrack)... that is primarily a covid death, but heart attack would be high in mentions.
A well known poster on another forum, still with us today thank goodness...had a serious stroke after being hospitalised for two weeks with covid....again the stroke was caused by covid.

Another friend has large cell arteritis, which again appeared during her covid infection which I fear will result in her demise..and that will not be registered as "covid related"

    All caused by covid..

Just look at the excess deaths over the last 2 years..that tells you near the real figure Ellers...and it is loads loads bigger than 17k
