Football is a funny old game-we lost yesterday and last Saturday to the best team in the championship a side that will win the championship. However I thought we played some good football in both games. NP has his hands tied behind his back at present and until he can offload the high earners the ones that previous management purchased and gave long contracts and crazy wages he is in limbo. The problem no other clubs want to take them or their extortionate wages on.So until he can get them gone he has to go with what he has at his disposal. Going to be a long hard bumpy road ahead-I just hope he stays and builds a team we can all be proud off. Or will he walk and say this is a job that is not possible under current circumstances. The guy is a winner as the Fulham commentators said yesterday during the match and they were very complimentary of Bristol City and the way we play our football under Nigel Pearson. I just hope he stays and carries on with the project he inherited from the Mark Ashton Lee Johnson Dean Holden era. My big concern is the Lansdown family going to back him or are they waiting for new investment to come in or take over-interesting times ahead.
Unless NP lands a job in the Prem, the scenario is the same across the championship. To me, there are 2 buckets in this division, those who are the good coaches and do well with what they have, and those who can only do it with money to spend. Right now, NP is not looking as though he’s in the bucket we want or need.
NP has never been a big spender-look at his purchases and certainly look at the costs of assembling that great Leicester City side he put together. When his hands are untied watch him put a side together
maybe what we lost is that cohesive gel that makes for a successful football club. The commennt "look at" kindles a thought or 2, it took another manager to simply put the right amount of prepping, odd pinch of this that or the other to come up with turning the ingreidients available to make an award winning pie! NP was doing OK to a point, until PS got ill, CF arrived and PS and KD eventually left also. At one point in time NP commented in a tone that all was not well with his relationship with "the coach/coach's 2 and if they wished to leave so be it ... and they did.. Did as the door opened to let them out, so did major staple ingredients of the pie follow as well. Comments on here have stated we have2 defenders running the show [ not very well as we leak like a sieve ] and no real attacking coach /s to sort the forwards! In a garage you tend to find a "group" of electrically minded or mechanically minded with odd one or 2 a bit of both. Bit like Flinty could play up front a bit, not a lot but a bit but in goal we would conceed a few more than we did. They say horses for courses ... well our stable seems to be full of Shires and Ponies but the race track is Epsom or Newmarket...
I'm waiting with baited breath to see his miracles but I think we will still be debating the same issues this time next year. The parachute payments should be a help but they don't eliminate you from signing donkeys. Did Leicester build their title winning squad on parachute money or by spending a small fortune? I'm not up to speed on that subject but surely a competitive squad doesn't have to be built on a shed load of money rather than on good scouting and contacts within the sport to come up with unheralded gems. I tend to agree that the money paid out for failure will never be the answer to parity in the division and so the league bosses have to bang their heads together to come up with a more equitable process to include clubs like ours.
I believe we blew our chances of premiership football, when LJ was in charge but sold off players that were fundamental to us going forward. The belief that we would replace them with the same quality for a lot less was our undoing .....that ship has sailed and it's not really been close since. Chopping and changing managers and with the affects of Covid has reduced us down to a "lucky to survive the championship" side. On the plus side.....we are using the youngsters and as time goes by, they will gel more and become more effective with each game... NP or our scouts need to recognise a system the suits best and bring in other players to enhance what we have...that also means, not selling our best players that we already have. Without funds, we need to build with what we have and because they're young it is possibly, but needs to be done without disruption.. Maintaining championship status goes without saying is our first objective.....
Pearson spent 29 million in his time at Leicester. But that was 11-7 years ago. https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nig...tation_id/45791/plus/0/sort/datum_hidden.desc
