is that part of visa entry requirements?

it then became political and they couldn’t let him appear to break the rules/law

That’s not politics…that’s the right thing to do…it’s the purpose of a government?

Who cares about his Grand Slam rights and ambitions?

it’s more important to not piss the Public off by setting a bad precedent imo

I don’t know all the facts but I dont think that is important

    I won't reply individually.

His visa was cancelled on "good order and health" reasons. More details will be released in a few days.

I understand the visa not been filled in correctly and that can be a valid reason on its own. I think mistakes have been made on both sides. No side is really coming out of this well. As I said, I'm not a fan of Djokovic attitude towards all this. He hasn't acted very respectfully.

Djokovic has tested positive on two separate occasions. One back in 2020 and one before Christmas. I believe that is the reason he was given an exemption and allowed to travel. Happy to be told otherwise.

There is a discussion to be had with natural immunity vs vaccine immunity with the omicron variant as its still fairly new. With previous variants there are plenty of peer review papers suggesting natural immunity is better than 2 jabs. The best immunity is both natural infection AND vaccine immunity together.

Strictly from a scientific view regarding covid, there seems to be no added risk letting him in the country vs a double jabbed player.

My main point is that if Australia let him in then the unvaccinated locals will be in uproar that they do not get the same privilege. Therefore the easy thing to do is disregard science for an easier life.

If they sent him back on visa application reasons then fair enough. If its health reasons then its a political decision.

Like I said mate, he tried to navigate the system, that in itself is wrong, all he had to do was have his jabs, he chose not to, so tbph, I don't care about him. All well and good your own citizens refusing, but when you travel to another country, you play by their rules and that is they want you vaccinated.

That’s not true imo, based on the reading I’ve done anyway.

They’ve openly said he was acting like a conduit for anti vax bobble heads, not of his doing directly but still an unwanted consequence of him being there and this dragged on visa nonsense. So it was better if he went.

It's best if we leave the natural infection vs vaccine protection to one side. That would just go round and round.

Your second paragraph I think kind of agrees with what I am saying. He was given a medical exemption by tennis Australia and the Victorian state government. Then the people of Australia kicked off, the press got involved and the "anti vax bobble heads" were rightly questioning why he was allowed to roam free when they had been locked down away from the rest of the population. They realised they couldn't really answer so they moved heaven and earth to make sure they made an example of him.

Agree that rules are rules. I suppose I'm questioning the rules and also wondering why the Victorian state government and tennis Australia gave him the medical exemption in the first place. Did they not know the rules or did they think it would be OK. When it kicked off everyone backtracked quickly and tried to reverse it.

I believe there was a female tennis player refused entry for the same reason too.

He filled his visa out incorrectly and also seems to be some mix up with dates of infection/public engagement.

so if I had done that, sure I would have been turfed out, and rightly so.

From what I've read I think the Aussie open is Victoria State's biggest money earner from tourists and also for prestige. They had a vested interest in making sure the big names were there. Looks like they were a bit flexible in how they interpreted the rules to make that happen.

I suppose there were people that wanted him to play, was the event being held in Victoria State, if so, it would explain why they wanted it to go ahead, if not, then I don't know.

I always look at situations to say how would I expect to be treated, and if I was unvaccinated, I would expect them to send me straight back home, more because I know Australia, as with countries such as Austria, have been tough on stuff like this.

I get he was misinformed and that in itself is wrong, but it shouldn't be allowed to excuse his own commonsense and he knows as I do, it's a no, no. I'd be surprised if it was any other decision.

The reason they give last night was "good order and health" with further details in the coming days.

The mix up with dates/infections wasn't considered in the decision but may lead to a fine when he gets back home.

Will be interesting to see how they implement this revocation of his visa. Under normal rules it also results in a three year ban on getting another visa!

Yes you are right. You would not have been allowed the medical exemption.

When he was given the medical exemption and then it kicked off it soon became apparent that they would have to hand out exemptions all over the place. It would snowball and end up costing a fortune in legislation and paperwork. They are not willing to do it so backtracked and finding some trumped up charges to force it through.

I've a feeling he will have the 3 year ban revoked nice and quietly in a few months time so it doesn't upset the locals.

If the rules are followed, he won’t be heading to Oz for a few years if I read the possible three year ban is correct for this sort of error for the regular people.

Apparently at least 2 others had the same exemption and have now suddenly been grabbed and told they are also going to be deported .
