yeah it was November then December then acun announced on Turkish tv on new year's eve that he ad bought the club then it was supposed to be 48 hours away
Which reminds me, a while back, there was a rugby fan who kept ringing and texting Sportstalk to say that although City were doing well it was still a rugby town as the average rugby crowd was 20,000 compared to City's 18,000 at the time. I wrote in to ask if he knew what an average was. 20,000 watched by 2 clubs meant the average crowd at a rugby match was10,000. The presenter, I think it was Mike White who always had a pro football attitude, chuckled when I said I would have mentioned aggregate but the rugby fan would probably have thought I was talking about building materials.
Never had a bad word to say about City and I've seen him at City reserve games at Boothferry Park. He also helped Jeff Barmby out with the Ex Tigers and attended all their fund raising do's. This football v RL thing and crowds in Hull. If we are doing badly as we were from the mid 70's for nearly 20 years, RL in this city sees an increase in crowds. We also lose supporters to PL football and other attractions. If we were packing the stadium every home game the crowds for Fc would suffer. This has been the case throughout our existence. You only have to read the history of Hull City to see this. When we briefly shared the boulevard with FC when we started up as a club they kicked us off when our crowds became bigger then theirs. Hull is a small city and it's not healthy to have three professional sports clubs all competing for the same gate money. Our crowds have always been fickle and we lost a golden opportunity to build up a new fanbase when we were finally promoted to the PL. But there is a massive audience out there in the East Riding and South Bank to capture and I hope the new owners are successful in not only capturing them but keeping them.
It's never been 48 hours away,. It's until the EFL give them the green light and they can only do so when they have verified or checked what has been put before them. So it could be within the next hour, tomorrow, next week or god forbid the week after, but it has never been 48 hours.
My money is on this being down to having a clown as a vice chairman. I see pictures of people scrabbling about for various documents left right and centre. Perhaps that simply my dislike of the ****er. What a laugh. Owners who want to sell cannot even sort that out properly.
It was doubly unfortunate for us that our downward spiral to the bottom division for the first time coincided with the golden period for the Hull Rugby clubs. Also worth mentioning that for a brief period in the 1970s the biggest crowds in Hull were for speedway. And that Hull FC had two crowds below 1,000 only 2 or 3 seasons before going unbeaten when they got promoted and their crowds suddenly went up as City were getting 3 and 4,000 as we stumbled from one disaster to another with disinterested owners.. Wasn't that long ago Rovers were getting less than 2,000 and the only figures the HDM didn't publish among the welter of statistics after every game was the attendance.
Let's be fair, the EFL aren't exactly renowned for being expedient for anything other than giving out fines.
I think your first sentence is absolutely key - when other similar sized clubs were cementing their fan-bases ours was being spirited away by ''successful'' RL teams; Pearson started winning a few back but, for reasons that have been done to death on here, the Allam family have undone a lot of his good work.
It would have been interesting to see what crowds would have been in L1 last season compared to the last time we were in the third tier under Dolan at BP to see what net progress has actually been made (and subsequently pissed away by the Allams) in the last 30 years or so.
My sister agreed a price for a house that has been empty for 10 years or so (something ridiculous like that) in early October. A chunk of money too...The agreement was based on the the owner a man of advancing years clearing 30 years worth of hoarding. Not so much as a newspaper has been cleared... Fallen through... desire to purchase, reluctant to sell..
