Good evening. I was pottering in the kitchen before with the noise of the TV on in the sitting room, I heard the name "Osborne", I said straight away "What for"? I've watch AP since I was a little kid and always remember an episode where the gaffer asks "What is your name, Oz replied with a slight edge,"OSBORNE, WHAT FOR"?. It's one of those shows that you can always get talking about with pretty much anyone of a certain age and ages groups that may surprise you.End up saying quotes "The one where Barry" etc, and still makes me laugh. Got the Boxset about 10 year ago and watch it once a year. Got me thinking, any other fans of it on here?
Loved the show....one of the best made, real life. I also have the Box set, looking a little dated now, but still makes me laugh. Only one I couldn't get away with was Moxy....not sure why, but that character didn't seem to fit in for me.
Series 1 was like a work of art. Series 2 was generally good. Series 3 was poor. Didnt watch the rest of them on the strength of series 3 and the reviews. I remember reading a synopsis where it stated something like 'Neville is recruited by the MI5 too.........' WTF!!!! Favourite quotes: 'Errrrrm, fat grease and gristle equals acne and heart attacks Moxeeeeeyyy!' 'Thats a canny jumper man!' Barry Taylor: The votes as cast are as follows: The winner is... Yellow. Dennis Patterson: Yellow! Barry Taylor: By one point. Dennis Patterson: Who voted yellow? Wayne Norris: I don't like yellow. Bomber Busbridge: My neither, it's not a man's colour. Albert Moxey: It's a fiddle. Bomber Busbridge: I demands a recount. Barry Taylor: Figures don't lie y'now. Wayne Norris: So who's first choice was it then eh? Barry Taylor: Nobody's. Bomber Busbridge: Well then how could it win? Barry Taylor: Because no two people had the same first choice. Dennis Patterson: So everybody's first choice only got two points. Barry Taylor: That's right, and yellow got three second places. Dennis Patterson: Well that's a smashing system that is, isn't it Barry eh? Everybody gets what nobody wants. Barry Taylor: That's democracy Dennis.
Odd you should say that about Moxy. He was the last one they cast because the and didn't really have a character for him. They asked what accents Chris could do because when they said they wanted the Moxy to he Irish, he said he wasn't very good at that accent, however he could do a scouse accent no problem. The first series was great, but I think the first half of the 2nd I Derby was just as good.
Same for me mate. The transporter bridge series was a canny nostalgia hid, but that was it. The later ones where they went to Cuba was originally scheduled for the 80s, but after Gary died the rest said they didn't want to continue.
I thought Moxy's character got better as the series wore on. He was very shallow in the first series, but gradually his weird sense of humour came to the fore. The seven complemented each other brilliantly. Dennis's wife was a pain in the arse in the first series. I'm pleased they split up.Remember a very young Ray Winstone playing a squaddie who went AWOL. Sunderland's own Melanie Hill played Hazel (Barry's intended) in the 2nd series. Unlike some on here, I enjoyed the 3rd and 4th series, cant really remember the 5th in Thailand, other than Barry got kidnapped. It was noticeable that Barry always ended up in jail. That probably was because Tim Spall was in such great demand as an actor, that he could only commit to a certain length of time for filming Auf Wiedersehen. Noticed that the song which was sung in the first series was repeated in the 3rd. Rule Brittania, marmalade and jam, 5 chinese crackers up yer arsehole, bang bang bang bang bang! Class show.
First two series class. Declined a bit after that but they'd bought so much goodwill previously I was happy to watch them. It all got a bit 'Geordie Nayshun' as well. 'call me Tiger'
Was working in Bristol at the time and shared an office with a lad from Whitley Bay and the next day discussing it the locals never understood the bits we thought were worth having a laugh at.
Love it me. First 2 series are magic, not keen on others. I still rerun the first two series and brings a smile to my face. Soon as the music starts I am taken back in time. Thought the first half of second series was the peak when doing up that Manor house. Some great episodes then.
This. Went from them supporting Sunderland whilst away early series to sly digs later on. Some class bits. Nervous Barry in a phone box. "Where are you Barry"? "Some bloody concrete jungle called Gateshead" Dennis. "Oz man, he was only garn for a curry man". Ali Frazer. "Not many people chin big baz, make him chargehand".
Love the whole thing, every series and every episode. My favourite is the second series when they were at Thornley Manor. Best episode was when they found the porn video... "Call me tiger" still gets me howling!
