Max Verstappen. Just having a laugh because he and Hamilton have been involved in various disputes this year about accidents where one hasn't given space to the other when turning.
The last crash I had on my road bike was a left hook. It wasn't terrible by left hook standards and I only had a sore arm and slight bruising after. Car overtook me and decided to pull a sudden left pretty soon after doing so, there was either no signal or it was really late and much too late for it to make any difference. I couldn't escape the enforced undertake but broke hard as I realised what was happening, so I ended up clipping the rear quarter of her car as it turned into my path and took me out. These are really common as you say. A lot of drivers are rubbish at judging the speed a fit road cyclist on a training ride can be travelling at, and a lot just don't see cyclists at all because they're oblivious or just don't care
My brother got clipped by a car when riding his bike when he was 17. 30 odd years later he still hasn't fully recovered and has problems with that knee.
I crashed into the back of a parked van on my bike when I was 18. Might have had something to do with gin...
Thanks chap. Fully recovered ... physically yes, mentally probably not Am I still cycling ... nah because my bike got stolen and I haven't replaced it, partly because I don't feel like riding on the roads much anymore (see above) I had a previous accident where a car hit me head on before this one. It took an absolute effort, mentally, to start riding again after that. The therapist said I was displaying mild-moderate phobia of cycling in the assessments I had done for the legal proceedings in the aftermath. Fortunately I was ok after I'd physically healed, but the older I get the more I realise how different that one could've been, could easily have been very seriously injured, paralysed, dead. At the moment I'd still trust myself on a road bike but I have zero trust in drivers. Maybe once spring / summer comes around I'll feel a bit different
Can you get charged with DUI if you're on a bicycle? Not sure what the rules with that are. Probably better someone who has hit the gin be on a bike than a car.
I know you can in the States, maybe only certain states though. I think the police in this country need to start focusing on the drivers first before they go after cyclists
A wall almost hit me on the same ride. I came to a T junction and just in time decided that it might be a good idea to turn. I then continued happily for a mile or so until I came to my left turn where the van had thoughtlessly decided to park. It was 2 in the morning so nobody witnessed the unwarranted attack on my person by inanimate objects.
It is in Germany, though the limit is much higher. A friend of mine drank a bit too much Gin round mine once and managed to fall asleep on his bike while cycling home.
Far fewer cyclists over here. You almost never see them on roads here. Too hot to cycle most of the year here and roads aren't up to it. And I certainly wouldn't feel safe being a cyclist on South Carolina's roads. Usually if you see someone on a bicycle they're 18 in a pair, and carrying the book of Mormon in one hand. Not drunk on gin though. One assumes.
You noticed I said when I was 18? You could get away with being drunk in charge of virtually anything in those days.
