Morning all. Damp and grey, and the light breeze has moved, so it is now coming from the east instead of the south. Some cheering news as a lunch has been arranged at our favourite restaurant this week for some of the football friends. Some who spent six months here and six months in the UK are non-residents, so cannot join us, which is a shame. It will however be the chance to see others for the first time in two years. Relegation, promotion, struggle. A lot can happen in two years. Have a good day everyone. <ok>

Have to offer this once, Mex, and then I never say it again:
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00PABUSC4/?tag=not606-21
The top review from the UK, is as if I wrote it:
“I was a 20 a day smoker, 40 a night if drinking. 'Quit' about 50 times in my life.
I read this book over two evenings, chain smoked whilst reading it (about 30 cigarettes) and had no belief it would actually work.
It's a tedious read, it's patronising and repetitive (literally), but who cares when it is brilliantly effective.
It sort of re-wires your thought process on cigarettes. It has now been 4 months, and easy months at that. I haven't had cravings, I don't have twangs, I go on heavy drinking nights and don't even crave one with my beer (which used to come hand in hand). I still go to the smoking area with my friends, and I don't feel I need to distance myself.
My only advice is take it seriously, read every condescending sentence, and if it doesn't quite read right, read that extract until it does. Don't skip the repetitive sections, they are there for a reason. Stick with it and good luck with quitting.”

It’s worth a go, and a piece of the proverbial if you follow every word. <ok>

It has had a higher success rate than patches and gum. <yikes>
The 1&2* reviews between them amount to 6% of total reviews. The 5* reviews alone are 75% of reviews.

I’ve read some of the 1* reviews and they miss the point. It is deliberately repetitive, because a ‘rewiring’ of the brain is necessary for smokers to ‘quit’ (not ‘give up’ - there is nothing to ‘give up’ when quitting smoking, you ‘give up’ things when you smoke, the book is very clear on that).
The rationalising of such an unnatural but extreme addiction is so powerful it needs careful and thorough breaking down, so the addict doesn’t regret quitting. This is essential to long term quitting of addiction.

I lent my copy to various friends. That single copy ended twelve persons’ addictions.

My success was down to a bicycle.
As there was no public transport between Watford, where I lived, and Borehamwood, where I worked - I decided to try cycling the ten miles rather than drive every day. The first day, on early shift, I left home at 4:30am for a 6:00am start - didn't get there until 7:30am. Gave up smoking on the spot...

Whichever way works, it is important to quit. <ok>

Mrs Fez eventually gave up the filthy habit when she finally decided that she wanted to. The same can be said for all of my family that have given it up. Otherwise you're on a hiding to nothing. I come from a very heavy smoking family that, fortunately, were proactive in discouraging me... plus the news of the beagles when I was a small child.

Morning all. A lovely clear blue sky, but far from warm out there. There are a lot of egrets in the fields around here at present, both the long and short legged varieties. They seem to like the company of sheep, possibly because they turn up the ground and so make worms easier to find. The long legged ones also seem to attract a heron or two. What with them, and the flock of ducks returning to our village pond, the bird world is becoming very active. Have a good day everyone. <ok>

Just to let everyone know that I will be nearer Mex rather than Bolton for the next 3 weeks as we are going to Costa Rica :emoticon-0169-dance:emoticon-0182-poolp :emoticon-0157-sun:

I will be keeping up with things where possible but won't be streaming matches. Hopefully when I get back we will have 9 points in the bag.

    Keep well all.

Enjoy - pleasant weather this time of year, although sometimes too much humidity.

Morning all from an overcast and chilly rural France. Spent yesterday logging as it was dry all day. I had a large pile of good size branches that had disappeared under a tangle of brambles. The intention was to use the chain saw and cut them into half a metre logs, however they were far too wet for that. Instead they have been brought up to the barn to dry out, then will be cut up with the circular electric saw. I now have a shoulder aching from pushing a ladened barrow along a grass track. Take it easy day I think. Have a good day everyone. <ok>

Morning all. Cold and frosty start to the day and not expected to rise above 5°C this afternoon. Off for some socialising for the first time in goodness knows when. Stopping en route to visit a shop run by an English couple who sell greetings cards at very reasonable prices. Quite how they have kept going over the past two years I don't know, perhaps I will find out. Then on to my favourite restaurant and football friends. Looking forward to it all. Have a good day everyone. <ok>

Morning all. Everywhere white with frost again, but the sun is up and a thaw is underway. Splendid day out yesterday with friends where I heard about the trials of getting two donkeys into the UK from here. Everything entering the country has to have a value, although the donkeys didn't cost anything, but entering zero on a customs form will not do. Enter £0.01 and you are told you are taking the mickey, so try £10.00 and that seems to be acceptable. Now that has been established you are liable to customs duties of £180 each. Vets fees in France of €90 to say they have no nasties, then vets fees of £200 for the pair of them to confirm what the French paperwork says. £550 transport costs and two days of stabling at £50 per day each. Extra unknown charges might be involved if stuck at ports. All in all an expensive pair of donkey. Have a good day everyone. <ok>

No disrespect towards your friends intended - but if they paid all that, it's easy to see who the donkeys are.

One half refused to go back and leave the donkeys behind, which I believe was a failed attempt to stay where they are. :emoticon-0105-wink:
