I'm glad they clarified that not only red necks with cowboy hats can use this vehicle though.

I'll be honest though the flat be seems small for hauling real materials about given the full 4x4 cabin attached to the front of this.

That's inexpensive, even for the US, but in the US it's because everyone goes for obnoxious oversized vehicles. (I've always found smaller cars more fun to drive). I think average new vehicle price has crept up over $35k. Most trucks are over $40k. I've always thought expensive cars are a waste of money though and usually get something cheap. As long as it's safe and reliable. My current car I've had about 11 years now, and it's been taken care of so could probably last another 11 (it's a Honda) but it's reached that stage in life where maintenance is going to start costing more than just buying a new vehicle.

Small relative to other pick ups on the market here. It's only a foot longer than a Ford Focus for comparison. So family car sized footprint. (Focus is considered a compact car here)

I would have liked a longer bed and a smaller cabin but that option isn't available. This is the first practical sized pickup they've sold in the US in two decades. The bed is large enough for 99% of stuff I'll carry.
Just get some red flags to tie to anything sticking out the end.

It's also unibody like the Honda Ridgeline, rather than all the others on the marker which are body on frame... Which is far more practical for a truck that will be used as a daily driver too.

100% the unibody is the way to go for any of these things but these are absolutely massive compared to here, just saying. 200 inches = 16 2/3rd feet its longer than a BMW 5 series but is nearly 6 foot tall which is pretty big.

now the big bus i posted for fun the f-450 is 22 foot long which is a whole other person lying down and is 7 foot tall before anyone has a go at the wheels so yeah yours is compact compared to that buit a compact car here would be say a vauxhall corsa or fiat 500 or i guess. (thats a metre shorter than your bus.)

Always found buying brand new car pointless. Lose half its value right away.

Always gone second hand with a lowish mileage of around 20-30k.

What I really wanted was the VW Tarok that was being discussed for a few years. It is the ultimate in practical for the Pickup market. Basically looked like an estate with a small bed. But the whole back seat would fold down to become part of the bed... So you could have five passengers OR a 6' bed for laying things down in.

Not coming to the US though. I think just for South American market.

I hear that a lot, but don't think it's true over here, especially not if you haggle with sales people when buying and shop sales. I think it used to be true here... And certainly if you plan on selling your car soon after you'll rarely get your money back, but when I buy a car I usually intend to keep it long term.

I bought my wife a Camry in '99 sold it two years later for same price I bought it for (which I loved... <laugh>), we only sold it because trying to cut costs and only needed one car, so became one car household for a while.

My current car (Honda Fit) got for $16k new, that was the same price as ones that were two or three years old at the time.

Used cars are expensive here now. No used Maverick to compare to yet as it's brand new, but I always look at used first but when I compare.to cost of depreciation over 10-15 years, find the lower cost isn't really all that lower. Especially if you buy base model without upgrades. Dealers rely on people buying upgrades as that's where they make their profit...

If you try selling you probably lose 20%, but after dealers put their markup on it, it's back up to almost new car price. (At least here).

I wouldn't go new either. Newest car I've ever bought was 4yrs old. My current car is 2010 and I've had it almost 3yrs.

If you want new, you're better off getting them on lease; lose just as much money, get a newer version every three years and they're responsible for mechanical issues.

Sounds like America is different as here you lose a hell of a lot as soon as leave the forecourt.

Mines 2016 which I got in 2019 so new enough that so far I’ve had no mechanical issues (just couple new tyres) but not too new that was silly expensive.

There are a lot of them around (not 450, but 250's and 350's... I think the size of the truck is the same for all those models, it's the engine size that changes).

They're enormous, even for here, and frequently take up multiple parking lots, and completely block your field of vision of they pull up next to you while you're trying to turn. Hate them. Usually driven for show rather than practical purpose. Usually by people living in trailers who could have had a house instead but spent all their money on a truck as a status symbol.

Those are considered subcompact here (as have been the last two vehicles I've driven).

Mid sized here is classified things like Toyota Tacoma, Ford Ranger, or Honda Ridgeline... Vehicles that would probably have difficulty fitting in parking spots in parts of the UK. <laugh>.

second hand prices seem to be flying up here too. I was down with someone in the car dealers recently and the place was empty, a few more came in after the year turned but still really no cars available cos the new car market collapsed for a few months. I think it was worse than 08/09 TBH.

the issue here is you don't really have the discretion in the sale forecourt any more. I managed to pull a few levers with a guy but nothing like the levers if you get finance. I got myself a 2 year warranty on a 5 year old car i bought but recently i could only get a 1 year warranty on a 3 year old car for someone I did get a grand off the asking price.

The age of the car doesn't matter too much nowadays, it's more about the mileage.

Warranties are worth about as much as used **** paper too.

If I went to an airport right, I'd get a compact in europe and cry. a corsa is certainly possible and hateful thing to have happen when you are not paying or a nissan micra. A compact in the Us would be a 4 door regular car and then what we'd consider a have decent cruiser here would be your midrange but really expensive here.

I had a mate over and he rented a car from the US side to drive here and got I think a micra for £5 a day. he was laughing at it

If you buy a car for say $20k and try to sell it a year later your could probably only get $15k back. So you lose quarter of your money in one year.

So in that sense you lose a lot. But if you try to buy a year old vehicle that was $20k new... You'd probably still pay $19k over here. Used market always overpriced. (Although you can haggle rough with them if they've had a hard time moving inventory).

If you figure in depreciation, $1k to buy a year old car makes no sense. Even $2k savings might not be worth it. Especially if keeping car for long run.

What's made me think it's time to get a new car (Besides change in needs) is my car cost over $2k in maintenance last year, and there's more that needs doing. It's getting to that age.

Really very little expense the first decade now, so maintenance on my car, if it continues like this, is more than the annual cost on a new car broken down over a decade.

there must be massive difference in Sales tax/registration tax?

We are basically walking off the forecourt having paid VAT at 20% and the first registration tax based on co2? that is gone of the value the second we drive off.

whats it like in the US by state milk?

    Yeah basically one size down.

    Compact there = Subcompact here.
Mid sized there = Compact here
Full sized there = Midsized here

My wife has a Honda CR-V and complains about it being too small for a family.

totally but the wife was happy.

They don't really get a "modern car" unless driven into ground is only run in to a certain level and they guy knows full well the warranty won't cost him anything.

I nailed him on one thing one it just to stick it to him for the fun of it but in general the arse isn't going to fall out of the car in the 2 years.
