    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-59948920

WHO expects half of all of Europe to get the Omnicom 'rona in the next 6 weeks. this thing is unstoppbale by anything and the stats show 6 times more likely to be in hospital/ ICU when unvaccinated.

Eastern europe is going to be a **** storm.
    German. a hell hole

they all had their time to get vaccinated and were begged time and again.

poland now 6th worst in world with 40% unvaccinated and over 100k dead

russia is looking at a massive wave hitting them (and hopefully sweep their armies off the border with ukraine (the ****s) 100k cases per day expected.

There's a really good YouTube channel called Dr John Campbell where he gives a daily update looking at the virus and developments etc. across the world. Today he talks about rapid decline of omicron in S Africa, followed by Britain which is levelling, followed by USA (and Eastern Europe)where they are still in rapid growth of cases. Give it a watch, very informative and easy to understand.

If you haven't got the time or the inclination to watch, he gives a very comprehensive breakdown of what's in the video in the description.

I can't remember who it was on here who said they were vaccinated but couldn't be arsed to get boosted.

Where I work has been pushing the numbers to all the staff again as we reach near 100% occupancy again.

Most days in ICU it's less than 10% people who are vaccinated. For the past week: vaccinated and boostered... Not a single one in the ICU. (And that's averaging more than 500 covid positive people in beds in the hospital each day)

Whereas vaccination really helps, that booster really helps more... It's the cherry on the cake.

Not a single person who has had the booster in the last week has ended up in the ICU. (At our place)

Get the booster if you haven't already!

FYI our vaccination rate around here is around 70% and people at risk are more likely to be vaccinated, so that less than 10% in the ICU who were vaccinated shows the vaccine really does help. Back when Delta was peaking here it was more like 15% in the ICU had been vaccinated, so despite them saying Omicron is more likely to infect vaccinated people, the vaccine does seem to be giving better protection against Omicron than it did Delta for people who get it anyway.

Throughout this whole thing I've been more inclined to watch reports that are neither too negative nor overly positive. He gets the balance right (for me). Everything is factual, backed up and presented so that you can easily understand it. He doesn't blind you with science or throw a load of unsubstantiated figures in there, with the added bonus that he has a very positive delivery.

you have to listen to the provisos and assumptions he qualifies with.

he makes distinctions between maybe and firm conclusions.

The main issue for me here and now is we are out of antigen tests and constrained for PCR so the reality is we won't know if this has peaked... why? cos the amount to tests is constrained and the virus is simply not.

sadly hospitalisations (the lagging metric) is still going up so we need to see this lagging metric drop to say the peak is really over. hopefully so.

the dark thing is the tories are actively trying to with draw testing to stop talking about this and let this on now and be done with it no matter what happens next.

The hospital metric though is problematic as Covid is so endemic atm that a large percentage of patients will have it though that may not be the reason they were admitted though it still puts an extra strain on the hospitals due to infection control measures .

that is very true as well.

It is the only figure in theory we can put a hard number on bar deaths. Number in hospital wards with covid is also in the end the main reason why we are doing all this anyway I suppose.

I was an interesting distinction of pandemic v endemic that he was taking issue with WHO who have to be "right" and so state the thing weeks late.

Have we peaked? could well be in London but the rest of the country then doesn't count does it in boris etc minds?

BREAKINGPPE 'VIP lane' unlawful, judge rules
The government's use of a so-called "VIP lane" to award millions of pounds' worth of contracts for personal protective equipment (PPE) to two companies was unlawful, the High Court has ruled.

The Good Law Project and EveryDoctor claimed the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) unlawfully awarded contracts to supply PPE at the height of the first wave of the coronavirus pandemic.

The groups took legal action over more than £340m in contracts awarded to pest control firm PestFix and a contract worth about £252m to the hedge fund Ayanda Capital.

DHSC contested the claim, telling the court it "wholeheartedly" rejected the case against it and the VIP lane was rational and resulted in a "large number of credible offers" in an environment where PPE deals often failed within "minutes".

In a judgment earlier, Mrs Justice O'Farrell says it was unlawful to give the two companies preferential treatment on the basis of being part of the VIP lane.

However, she finds both of the companies' offers "justified priority treatment on its merits" and were "very likely" to have been awarded contracts even without the VIP lane.

And though I cannot anticipate the conclusions of the current inquiry I have learned enough to know there were things we simply did not get right and I must take responsibility. Number 10 is a big department with the garden as an extension of the office - which has been in constant use because of the role of fresh air in stopping the virus. And when I went into that garden just after six on the 20th of May 2020, to thank groups of staff before going back into my office 25 minutes later to continue working, I believed implicitly that this was a work event."

Boris has decided to play the distance card so that means his staff need to take the fall for him and resign having organised the booze up.

given boris didn't recognise the fact that a booze up looks different to a work meeting they must be all boozing all the time.

he's bascially thrown the guy under the bus here and said the gardens of no 10 are offices so all future disclosures must also be fine.
