I think we are playing once again for the second ball. We did that early in Ralph's tenure. Basically when we are being attacked, pump the ball up front and close them down instantly to get the second ball back in midfield. The messing around in the area is great when you are Man City, but we just do not have the players to do that.
Quote from the Brentford manager. Thomas Frank apologises to the Brentford travelling support for his side's 4-1 defeat at Southampton and laments his side for a lack of concentration... but insists the Saints 'didn't create anything' Really? The OG could be described as fortunate but the shot was hit well enough to come back off the post and embarrass the goalie. The other three goals were certainly 'created'.
I’d be concerned with those comments if I was a fan of theirs They are either true and they have a side that can concede multiple goals against uncreative opponents Or It is proper head in the sand stuff - refusing to admit they were outplayed / not allowed to play and pressured into mistakes I am leaning towards the latter
Just watched the Ralph interview on the BBC website again. I may be blinkered, but I cannot see how anyone would want him out. He seems the perfect fit for us - Like an Eddie Howe to Bompey. He is committed to the club, loves the club and is talented. Long may that continue.
Absofuckinglutely! I was impressed with the full part Ralph played in discussions with the new owners. Shows his dedication to the cause.
Carlsberg Saints? No, SFC are better than that! How about a Châteauneuf-du-Pape? A smooth, succulent wine that is very appealing to the palate and rich in its redness (and white)?
We didn’t create anything, but we scored four goals and came away with three points. How did we pull that off, I wonder?
If i remember, we were heavily linked with Jansson when he was at Leeds. I'm sure that's not his usual level perfomance, but looked to me last night that we dodged a bullet there - he was pretty awful!
The pass from Salisu into Romeu, first time, took about 6 Brentford players out of the game. Threading a needle ****. Romeu’s pass was pretty simple, he had the whole half to play it into! About 1:50 in the below
Here’s extended highlights from the OS: https://www.southamptonfc.com/news/2022-01-12/highlights-southampton-brentford-premier-league-2022 I agree with what’s been said about the pass from Salisu, who was put under a bit of pressure by Diallo passing back to him, but delivered the perfect ball for Romeu to send Broja away. JWP’s tackle at the end actually brought tears to my eyes, just awesome. This is the same player who battled for just under 125 minutes 3 days before, making a gut-busting run at the end of a hard game to make a last-ditch tackle when the game was safely won. What an example of leadership!
Both played important parts in a superb breakaway goal. Underselling Romeus part by saying he just had a simple pass to play. He controlled a pacey pass from Salisu and turned in the same movement, saw the run and played the pass. He had plenty to aim for, but still played it pretty much perfectly for Broja to run on to.
it is a fairly simple piece of play for a PL level centre mid. I’d expect them to make that pass 8 or 9 times out of 10. A centre back fizzing the ball in first time like that? Much more impressive Was a good goal all round
Eurofphizz, I'd go for a choice of Belgian Abbye beers and several British bitters. As well as fine wines, cognacs, single malts and bourbons. A G&T and jug of Pimms shouldn't be left out.
Agreed - there was nothing simple about Romeu’s pass. How many times have we seen over or under hit passes from the likes of Redmond
