For me the FA Cup has been increasingly irrelevant since Man U decided not to defend it twenty odd years ago. Today we potentially jeopardised our team and league ability, and for what? At best, we’ll possibly get a televised game against a premier league team. It’s madness. At the very least the “can’t remember the name but they wish they were Red Bull fizzy drink Cup” should be axed. There are too many competitions. I’m always pleased when we win, nonetheless I’d have rather seen as many of the under 23 team fielded as possible today. If we’d still won, it would have been something to celebrate and if we’d lost, it wouldn’t be such an impact on confidence. Of course, it would have minimised the injury risk on first choice players too.
I suppose the important thing is that we didn't want to lose 3 on the trot at home as confidence could have taken a knock. Somehow we managed to avoid that today, it wasn't pretty and it certainly wasn't comfortable but I for one am pleased that we got through. Hopefully we'll get a decent home draw in next round and get some much needed cash into the club........
The thing that makes me support the continuation of the League Cup is that there will often be a League 1 or 2 club that makes it to the latter stages or even the final (see Bradford). Putting prize money to one side, the gate receipts for a L2 club from an away game at Old Trafford (I think they are still split evenly in the League Cup?) would make up a huge amount of their wage bill for that season. I'd imagine in some cases it would keep clubs going. In an era increasingly dominanted by the arseholes that want to breakaway and form a 'Super League' I'm happy with absolutely anything that can create a payday for any small club, and has the loan farm teams complaining about too many games for their bloated and overpaid stars who don't like playing on a bumpy L2 pitch. /rant.
I actually think we look worse when we start with 2 up top. Our formation suits the players we have better with just the one up. Obviously willock and chair are the 2 to play either side of a striker and they were missing today. We cant fill those voids with the likes of Geoff Thomas and expect the same. Anyway, next round here we come. Its like winning the cup to us.
Willock picked up a knock in training apparently, hopefully it's not too bad. We're I the **** without him and Chair ffs, we need some reinforcements in rapidly !
Jeez you sound like a Nottingham Forest fan, buy, buy, buy......... must have more players........ No we don't, we'll get by just fine for the next month.......... we'll pick up some decent loans towards the end of January. We have 4 games in January all of them winnable, WBA (h), Coventrty (a), Swansea (h), Reading (h)...... there really is no panic......
Starting to get really excited about going to my first game in 2 years next week v WBA. As in the previous 4/5 attempts that I made this season, just watch something come between me and seeing a QPR game. Whats the covid protocols? Mask on in the pub/ground? If you see a scared/excited Irishman wondering around the Bush, that's me.
No masks needed in the pub or ground mate, unless you want to. Masks on public transport and in shops. You will need to show your COVID vaccination pass when entering the ground, I’m assuming Irish ones are accepted here. It’s quite relaxed compared to the rest of Europe.
Ok thanks Stan. I wear my mask everywhere due to an underlying illness. Hence why I am excited/scared at the same time. People over here think I'm mad to even consider going to the country with the highest case and death rate in Europe but I am sure per head of population, cases here (26k today) are probably higher right now despite us having 96% double vaccinated and nearly 60% triple vaccinated. I am just hoping to stay safe and enjoy a good day out.
How about getting Alex Smithies in on loan. He's only played one game for Cardiff this season. Oops, three this season including the League Cup?
I don't want loads of players, but we needed cover for Chair as it was, if Willock is also injured where do you see the creativity coming from ? 2 up top doesn't work for us we usually play ****e when we go with that. Adomah has been excellent for us but the midfield has created hardly anything apart from Chair and Willock. Take their goals out too and we are gonna struggle to score, we've turned over 2 poor sides lately in the league and now Rotherham on pens, we might not have a recognised keeper now either.
Yep, rather have Newcastle or Man U but if it’s Cambridge, so be it. Just glad we won. Won’t be able to make the next match.
And by getting to the 4th round we have avoided playing Walllll until after the Afcon finishes I should think. Hope Archer is ok, a dislocated shoulder is not. He made good saves in the shoot out but had a very nervy performance in the game itself. Hope Willock is ok too, I've read he got a knock in training but should be ok next week.
Won't be getting Newcastle oil sheiks in the next round Unless the Saudis invite Cambridge to an embassy meet and greet Then it's Newcastle by default in the next round
