My sons got me the ticket for this game and went along for my birthday present (December). They feel bad about how it turned out on the pitch...

    My thoughts:
    1) the no striker formation didn't work. We're not a Barcelona type team; with brilliant attacking midfielders like Messi who can score from 40 yards out.

    2) the pace of our attack was dreadfully slow most of the time. A couple of decent passes found our most forward man a few times, but he wasn't going to shoot.

    3) we've nobody who looks like that they can run with the ball.

    4) their keeper had a blinder. He pulled off a number of good or even great saves, but also had the freedom of the park to take as much time to take goal kicks as he liked. The ref spoke to him about this but didn't card him - so he continued all game, and wasted loads of time.

IMO Our midfield is poor. I hate to say this but Longstaff had a mare, Willock looked terrible when he came on, and Fraser didn't seem to find a decent pass the whole game.
I'd take the Everton offer for Longstaff now. ASM and Shelvey were the most involved but neither were effective.

Cambridge did defend pretty effectively, with often their whole team behind the ball - but that was their game-plan, and it worked to perfection.

I agree that Howe got the squad wrong today, though I do admit it looked more than enough to get past an average league one team. That's the FA Cup maybe.

We're better off getting this wake up call when there's time to mend it.

Today's been embarrassing and has given us a proper wake up call that attacking midfielders and a striker or two are crucial ingredients that we still need.

    It's retrievable.

The PL have requested clubs keep u-23s and first team in separate bubbles with as little as possible interaction this season. That is why they brought in the postponement rule if there are less than 13 first team players available.

I thought though that u23s had to be used if they had already played in the first team eg Anderson?

Once they cross over yes. I'm not sure of the full rules as its a while since I read it and I have no idea where I read it.

Everton and Southampton won AETwhich is a pity because we could have played those games on our free Saturdays.

Last season we played Morecambe who are a similar level to Cambridge. We beat them 7-0. I would like you all to have a look at the goal scorers in that game.

    Also who was in charge.

    Also who played.

Does anyone know why Gayle wasn’t available today.

Just heard rumours he refused to play. But I don’t believe that.

I don’t think he was injured?

    Love the thread title lads.

Interesting to note that Sunderland have beaten more Premier League teams this year than your lot :emoticon-0102-bigsm:emoticon-0102-bigsm:emoticon-0102-bigsm
