Grandad: "That Sidney Potter is a good actor, isn't he, Rodney? He was marvellous in Guess Who's Coming to Dinner."

Rodney: "Yeh, knock it out, Grandad. Sidney Potter?"

Grandad: "Yeh, you know him. Always plays the black fella."

Rodney:'' '"It's Sidney Poitier."

Grandad: "Sidney Potter."

Rodney: "It's bloody Poitier, I'm telling yeh."

Grandad: "And I'm telling you it's bloody Potter

(Del Boy enters the room)

Del Boy: " Are you two at it again, are yeh?"

Rodney: "Del, how do you pronounce that guy's name on the telly? Sidney Poiter or Sidney Potter?

Del Boy: "Personally, I pronounce it Harry Belafonte. But you two please yourself."

Rodney: "Oh you daft auld sod. It was Harry Belafonte all along.

Grandad: "Well I wondered why Sidney Potter kept bursting into song. I don't like Harry Belafonte."

And this was a dozen years after “Love Thy Neighbour”

I don't remember it, so I'll give people their own chance to evaluate it:

So it's due a comeback on the "anti-woke" BBC, then?

It'd be perfect...but it was an itv production...and therefore not funny, on top of being detestable.

By contrast, the BBC had 'Til Death Do Us Part', which was rightly loved, as Alf's family provided the counterpoint to his bile, hatred and stupidity...and as a consequence, it was FUNNY.

I dread to think how some people would react to Alf Garnett now, though.

It couldn't happen...flat out not possible. The world's changed too much.

My daughters won't watch Sean Connery as James Bond, because it's sexist, Whereas, I was more than somewhat uncomfortable with them knowing as much about sex (in theory) at 13, as I knew when I got married the first time. <yikes>

Putting aside internet porn and other stuff, shows like Big Bang Theory, Modern Families, Shameless and the like would never have been made 50 years ago. You can ban your kids from watching them, but they see them at friends houses or chat about stuff in the playground. What's acceptable and unacceptable just changes.

If they think Connery's Bond is sexist, then they shouldn't research the man himself! <laugh>

"I don’t think there is anything particularly wrong about hitting a woman- although I don’t recommend doing it in the same way that you’d hit a man. An open-handed slap is justified if all other alternatives fail.” – Sean Connery

I guess that's not sexist, in a way...

If looked at it in a certain light, it's pretty egalitarian...and fairly tame given that a man could legally 'rape' his wife until 1992.

Which was Michael Cohen's reason that Trump didn't rape his wife, when he was his lawyer.
That's what you're going to say publicly? Really?
To make it worse, somehow, he was wrong and got the timing off.

Love thy neighbour was ****ing awful...along with "mind your language"
That abomination was made "as a way to show all people were equal" <yikes>

Talk about badly executed... mind you sky (in the early 1990s I think) made a sit com about Hitler living next foor to Jewish people...called Heil honey I'm home...I **** you not.

Cancelled after 1 show and never repeated (can't think why)

Heil Honey, I'm Home! is such a great idea, though.
The title and concept are just so offensive that the content should get a free pass.
Shame it was ****ing awful. The pilot's on Youtube:

Putting it on after Dad's Army was a beautiful touch! <laugh>
