    Agree.

The chemistry between Sidney and Rod was fantastic <ok> Look at me, "as if I was on first name terms with them"!

Wonderful film and well ahead of it's time.

It's one I've downloaded but haven't got round to watching yet, classic by all accounts.

I much prefer the old films, proper plots and actors. Saw most of a modern blockbuster the other day, it was so predictable, style over substance.

Then I'd suggest that you give Crocodile Dundee II a miss.

How can a man of your advanced age not have seen In the heat of the night?

Next you'll be telling us Casablanca is new to you.

Been working my way through my downloads mostly chronologically, still got plenty to watch from the 1940s.

    Wit!

No honestly, what age are you?

If you're under 40 then knowing fùck all about the golden age of cinema can be forgiven. If not then WTF?

Downloaded the "100 greatest British films" and similar list of American ones but only oldies, there's loads from the 1930s, Hitchcock, James Cagney for example.
I'm 50 and trying to educate myself in the history of cinema.

Hollywood 30's, 40's and 50's are my favourite era.

    Film Noir especially.

Like you say, proper plots and acting <ok>

I also prefer black and white films, much more atmospheric.

I love all that plus the 50s/60s British "Kitchen Sink" genre which stripped everything down to people basically existing with no particular beginning, middle or end to the plot.

Yup, the 60's British "Kitchen Sink" genre with the likes of Albert Finney, Richard Burton, Tom Courtenay et al..................

Also some of these old films have really amazed me for example A Matter of Life and Death which, shot in 1946, features a "heaven" that looks like something Stan Kubrik might have created. Expect that was one of his favourites. Some wonderful comedies too, Kind Hearts and Coronets is sublime.
