Surely that meeting should have happened before the window opened?

This just seems to be the usual. Miss out on players and wait til the end of the window to make any sort of signings.

Oh great, another week of headlines about fabled "transfer meetings"...
During a Covid outbreak at the club? No, it shouldn't have

AC Milan supposedly made contact over a loan for Tanganga but we knocked it back, insisting that if he leaves it's on a permanent deal at around €25m.

He obviously had a mare the other night but I think Tanganga is a decent squad option so I'd be cautious about letting him leave. Personally I wouldn't sell, at least not in January, maybe see what the situation is like in the summer.

We should extend his contract and let him join them on loan. He needs regular football.
Sign a pre-contract agreement with Romagnoli and ask them to let him join early as the loan fee.

I don't see him as much as you guys but to me he's always an accident waiting to happen, e.g. the other night.

I'm never confident when I see him on the team sheet.

Perhaps it's bad luck, lack of confidence through low game time, or just not good enough, I don't know. If another versatile defender is signed then loan him out somewhere where regular hame time is guaranteed then perhaps we will have a better picture.

He's erratic. Has outstanding games, then has nervous ones.
Probably doesn't help that we keep changing managers and systems.
In and out of the team and used in multiple positions, in a similar number of formations.

The Spanish media are claiming that we've got a €40m clause to sign Coutinho in the summer.
    Wut?

I think as PNP highlighted, injuries and a constant change of managers hasn’t helped. I think he's a decent if unspectacular player at present though.

Been a rough two years for him in what really should’ve been a good two. Broke through under Jose, looked great against City/ Pool but then injuries, sackings and different selections have halted his development.

A loan would probably be great for him for the second half of the season but it doesn't seem like the club's open to it, at least not right now.

He's the type of player I'm glad the academy's produced though. Whether he makes it here or not, either way we benefit, whether it be from a playing perspective or a financial one via selling him. It's what I said I wanted from our academy a few months back; to basically be like Chelsea's, they've got about 5 academy players in or around their first XI and then they've sold the likes of Abraham and Tomori for high figures which is all profit for the club.

I’ve seen a few Twitter accounts say this too.

Both Spurs and Villa have reserved the right to buy him for that fee? Never heard of this before. So he’s basically on trial at Villa and Spurs will pounce if they like what they see from him at Villa?

Nothing like a try before you buy especially if someone else is doing the trying at their expense.

I can't help but wonder if there's a direct correlation between players who are lined up for the chop and those who place their instincts before coaching

Dele and Ndombele are the most likely examples of this, the latter because he always seems to be playing a different game to his teammates while the former always gives off the impression that he half-remembers his instructions at kickoff but within fifteen minutes only remembers that running around is part of the instructions and forgets anything else that's asked of him

Similarly, based on his recent performances, Tanganga seems to be having difficulty adapting to Conte's instructions while the likes of Dier, Sanchez and Davies have taken to them like a duck to water, while at best he's been solid (Palace springs to mind) at worst had some utter mares (Chelsea, Mura) but also some games where he was easiest to sub off when making tactical switches (Leeds, Norwich)

On the other hand, Bergwijn and Lo Celso both seem to be very coachable, with both having recent cameos showing they are in sync with Conte's tactics when called upon, and it has to be said coachability can vastly improve a player's usefulness as Dier has proven all season while Winks having some product to his game in recent weeks also demonstrates this - but the issue with both is their coachability doesn't carry over when they're in the treatment room

It's being reported that Sonny could be out for the rest of the month with a leg muscle injury.

That should make negotiations for any striker during this window a whole lot more interesting.

Who could possibly have foreseen this...?

Yeah I think you’re right there. Conte will prefer a less talented player if they can follow instructions over a player with talent but a bit of a maverick. It all goes back to his system and how he wants to play the game. In that respect he’s the opposite of a Harry Redknappz
