My City mate says that those two are the cream of the U23s and very, very good.

Perhaps this is what was meant by multiple Tino like deals

I would wonder what is means for the likes of Watts and Doyle who are attacking midfielders

He also doesn’t think they’d be for sale. Maybe loan.

Any idea of their contract status’? I cba to check, if they are up like Toni’s then maybe we can persuade them to join and then negotiate a deal with City.

I love the idea of being the club the best young players come to. BUT we don’t want too many at once…. Too many in the team and lack of experience will become an issue; some not in the team and we don’t appear as attractive an option.

    Works in FM though

Just checked and Liam Delap is contracted til 2026 so can’t see that being an option

McAtee til 2023, so maybe I suppose but still seems unlikely

Why does McAtee seem unlikely? From his point of view he sees the likes of Tino and Broja playing in the PL regularly. From City's POV if he's not going to sign a new deal then they could get 5-10 mill for him. I know that's pocket change for City but I reckon they'd be open to deal with a buy back clause.

This points more to Delap being considered for a Broja like loan next season - especially if we can’t retain Broja in some way or another

Naturally we would all prefer permanent signings but things are what they are

Hell, works in the real world too. Look at Dortmund. Or Ajax a couple years ago...8 of the 14 players to feature in their epic win over Real Madrid were shy of their 23rd birthday.

And yeah, those were some special players, and no one's going to put out a team consisting solely of precocious tweens. But better teams than us have demonstrated that you can field a young, highly competitive lineup.

He’ll never score one as good as this though.

Still don’t see us doing anything this window unless someone leaves. Maybe there’s a goalscoring pressure forward who can also play 10 out there but I think we’re quite well balanced as a squad. Wait until summer unless there’s a really big opportunity. The young football league lads we go for are vastly overpriced in January because promotion is worth so much to those clubs.

The craziest deal of the transfer window isn't in the PL, or even in Europe, but in Canada. Lorenzo Insigne is joining Toronto FC on a Bosman...still an elite-level player on a club likely heading back to CL, leaving for one of the worst teams this year in MLS.

I'm sure that a giant pile of money is a major factor there, but Insigne would have been in high demand on a free in Europe as well. He's a year removed from being arguably the best player in Serie A.

Yeah because Toronto are bad too right? Guardian had the contract at €11-16m a season.

I don’t know what those numbers mean comparatively to other MLS players because it’s in Euros, it’s per season, I’m bad at maths and I don’t care enough.

Toronto has massive piles of cash (owned by a conglomerate consisting of the two biggest telecoms in Canada, strangely), but they weren't good a year ago.

And £9m to £13m a year isn't actually that crazy for a free transfer. £170k - £250k p/w is a hefty wedge, but it isn't Aaron Ramsey money either.

I love that making a big, expensive, older player signing is still a pretty effective strat in MLS governance and I hope it never changes.
