This time next week the human population is expected to hit the seven billion mark.

Is this rate of growth sustainable and if not, what can be done to curtail it?

This rate of growth is certainly not sustainable. The only way forward is to turn to cannibalism, both as a means of culling the population and providing sufficient nourishment.

    Nuclear War is the answer.

Nuke China and India/Pakistan, that takes care of 3bn, then turn to Africa, free condoms for all.

Development, improved living standards, remove poverty along with gender inequalities and this in turn reduces fertility rates

But development and improved living standards leads to a higher use of natural resources.

Its against my instincts but I have to agree with this. That old saying of "give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day, give an African a fishing rod and he'll burn it for firewood" is so true its not even funny. All the aid that goes to Africa just gets frittered away or skimmed by corrupt leaders. Anything that actually helps just papers over any real problems.

I'm all for helping them build infrastructure and clean water resources but throwing money and food at them just makes things worse.

I'd like to add a twist to that as well, the same should apply to all neds in the UK. They shouldn't be living off handouts so they can sit on their erse and do nothing. Community and National Service should be brought in to teach these wee fannies how to conduct themselves.

Maybe we can send them to Africa to build latrines and water tanks.

    It doesn't have to.

Not everyone has to drive their car to the chip shop 2 miles away. They could instead walk or cycle to a deli or supermarket.

The lifestyle choices made by humans in general are utterly shambolic.

It doesn't have to but sadly it does. Humans are mostly selfish bastards who don't think about the long term consequences of their actions.

But people in so-called civilised countries use 10 x the resurces of Africans so would it not make more sense to nuke the likes of Britain, America and most of Europe?
