Welcome once again to Reverse The Mechanism #6 for a battle between -

After a year's rest, the mighty Saints travel west to Wales for the FA Cup, a competition that actually takes place because teams are allowed to field players from their youth systems, unlike in the Premier League. Apparently.

"But do Swans See, LTL?", I hear you ask.

    An interesting question, readers.

Swans, like many of the Welsh, are very territorial, and need excellent eyesight to locate both food, and friendly mates, along with aggressors on their turf. Eyes on the side of the head make for an excellent defence against predators, but they have poor forward vision. The greatest manmade killer of swans is their tendency to fly into overhead power lines. Like sharks and crocodiles, Swans also have a transparent nictitating membrane, which serves as an extra eyelid, or indeed, as goggles underwater.

Unfortunately for Swans, their two main predators are deadly. The Royal Family, and the most potent threat against Swans, the lurking Gabbiadini.

Sadly, due to Covid restrictions, this match will be played behind closed doors, meaning that we won't have a chance to mingle with Swansea fans, whose greatest accolade is that they're nowhere near as unpleasant as Cardiff fans.

Ex Saints in the Swans ranks of course include small barrel, Michael Obafemi who has so far scored once. So he'll probably score against us, particularly if Tom says he's ****.

    Micheal Obafemi

In all seriousness, their striker Joel Piroe seems to score quite a lot, and has a tendency to kick the ball toward the goal, which has proven problematic for us.

With regard to our team, KWP will serve his suspension in this game, due to Newcastle bottling it, so there is that. There's a chance we might get to see some of our youth players make debuts (what a strange idea that is), with Simeu and Small looking most likely to get a kick.

I'm afraid that RTM rules mean that songs are only for Premier League matches, but if you were looking for Swan Song content, can I please direct you here - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swan_Song_Records

Just to reassure those that are worried, RTM will be ignoring the possibility that this is a "swan song" for RTM, though some effort will be taken out of the mechanism ensuring that this is the case. So if TIOONS could do his dishwasher in support, and Tom could not criticise any opposition players/praise any Saints players in-game, that would be much appreciated.

The good news is that by next Saturday the 'No7 travelling Circus' that has been the last 4 weeks will be back in the US after an extended break due to COVID. Therefore, the dishwasher will be relatively empty so should produce a victory.

It is also true that COVID is not a pandemic, but a political statement as only the US republicans got it in the house and all the Brits stayed clean and safe. But that is for a different thread maybe :)

My worry is that since my grandkids have been here, I have had to struggle to watch the matches and concentrate on the TV and for this game I will have 100% concentration. I will also be betting on Swansea to win so I lose more money.

Walker-Peters has to serve his one game suspension in the Prem so he will miss Brentford home. Salisu will serve his in the Swansea match

Yes and thanks to the village councillor Mark Drakeford no one can go to it. I was looking forward to it.

    BBC One Wales

Normal BBC One is showing Hull v Everton, presented by Gary. But on BBC One Wales it'll be Swansea v Saints, with whoever the Welsh version of Gary is.

This is no guarantee of anything, but previous 'Wales only' sports coverage on BBC has been available via the red button for English viewers. It is entirely possible that the BBC's red button will not be showing Swansea v Saints, but, hey, it's worth a try.

This is Swansea's first gane in almost a month I believe. I know we have had a break too, but not to that extent. Let's hope they are a little rusty

When it stretches to that length of time it does become more a case of being rusty and less one of being “fresher”

Should this go ahead, Swansea won't have played a match in just short of a month

It is a shame that no fans are allwed to watch this match. For me, the 3rd round of the FA cup is one of the key markers in a football season and a game I always hope will be at home. I have to say that I always hope that we draw a lower level team in this round simply because I like the fact that I might never have seen them play before. I love the giant killing aspect of this tound too - just as long as it does not involve Saints.

I can understand Drakeford's decision to cancel large gatherings to stop the spread of Covid. Not sure whether it will appear to have been a shrewed move and would probably have made more sense for football matches in London. Can't say I have much confidence in football clubs managing Covid after the experience at St. Mary's last week but difficult to think of many political figures in the UK as uninspiring as Drakeford - for once I can fully understand why Johnson and his cronies treat him as an irrelevance.
