Aye, unfortunately for a couple of million self employed, staying at home isnt an option.

Balls, the inevitable has happened, my son has been coughing since Saturday evening, tested negative yesterday, positive just now. Of course no PCR tests either by post or drive through available here. He is now barricaded into his room and has to wear a mask when he comes out….to be fair could just as easily have been my daughter who had a big night out on New Years Eve, or myself from the game yesterday. We are all triple jabbed, so hopefully he’ll shake it off soon and if the rest of us get it we will have mild symptoms.

My understanding is that the rest of us don’t need to isolate but should take LFTs daily (if we can find any).

Really irritating timing, was due to meet up with mates I used to work with abroad nearly 40 years ago for a very rare lads night out on Thursday, which might be a little irresponsible.

Sorry to hear that Stan, you are right it is becoming inevitable and a question of time.

Hope you get some tests soon...and yes you are right whilst you are test negative and 3× jabbed you don't need to isolate.

You have to make that judgement about meeting up I believe

Bad, sad where this does happen, but better than being one of the near 5.5 million already dead from Covid worldwide.

I’m not sure about the rest of the world, but I believe the average age of those deemed to have died ‘with’ COVID (as distinct to ‘because of’ COVID) in the UK remains in the low-to-mid 80s, and a high proportion of these had existing underlying health issues.

I’m certainly not callously saying that the deaths of these people are acceptable collateral damage, but I also don’t accept that it’s one thing or the other, Os. Why should there be a choice between ‘saving’ the lives of potential COVID victims and that of (say) a cancer sufferer? Why should we accept an increase in domestic violence for the sake of COVID measures?

Managed to get a postal PCR to be sent today. All the rest of us have tested negative (pesky false negatives though) and are feeling fine. I’m very glad the boy didn’t join me at the game on Sunday…..due to what at the time we put down to a massive cumulative hangover. Now we know that it was a massive cumulative hangover plus covid. He’s feeling better today though. Consulting with my former colleagues re their comfort levels on me attending (if still feeling fine and testing negative) and they are happy as long as I pay for their hazmat suits…….

    Covid cases pass 200,000 yesterday.

But London looks to have plateaued
    Everywhere else is rising.

News conference at 5.00 from Boris, in which he is going to tell us to ride the storm, I think.

I dont have to watch it to know what he will say, it will consist of over 5,000 erms, 2500 urhs, no answer to any direct question, a load of stuttering nonsense and the odd peverse grin.

Figures include 5 days worth of NI and 2 days worth of Wales. The published stats are becoming less than helpful. We also need to know not only that there have been a thousand or however many hospital admissions with/for COVID, but how many COVID patients have been discharged ie what the net change is. If 20,000 people are admitted but 20,001 are discharged on the same day that’s an improvement, but it seems like a disaster if you are only ever shown the first number.

No real change in the strategy, which seems about right to me. Places with much tougher restrictions in place have equally high recorded numbers of infections.

It was not on TV Bob...just live streamed.. so you didn't need to watch.

Whitty did show the different reasons for hospital admission...( after criticism that too many people with other things are being included as having covid in hospital)... and over 80% of people admitted do have a primary reason as Covid. Hopefully that dispels the rumours..

But we don't know discharges you are right Stan

I have seen a figure that shows people are being retained in hospital twice as long as in the first surge in early 2020...but that is due to less people dying quickly..and really sick people being saved with secondary treatment ... which is good
