Discussion on TV about air purifiers this morning. Obviously the opposition would do things differently, though they didn't actually say what that would be. Seems the same arguments are going on in Australia and NZ where the government have bought the wrong ones, too expensive ones and those not in power would have done it all better.
They used to do this sort of thing for certain ailments. The hospital on Cott Rd was one that did it. please log in to view this image
And early privatisation stopped wards been cleaned regularly. Wards used to be cleaned two sometimes three times daily Stopped that welcome in mrsa
The demise of the ward matron, and modernisation of hospital buildings being lead by architects rather than health experts was a retrograde step. Multi-millions lost on computer programes that added to the workload and complicated the process didn't help. It's why I say that it's not the amount of funding that's the issue, but where it is spent and who decides it.
True story, bean counter wandering around a hospital sees many visitors asking nursing staff for help with directions and the like. We can fix that with technology he decides, orders and installs a number of computer info terminals (allegedly 5 grand a piece) Within months they had all been rounded up and locked away in a storage cupboard.
Not just Doctors. It's absolutely crazy. They can tell their patients they have all sorts of issues, illnesses and diseases, so why the hell not to include obesity - something that threatens their health, wellbeing, survival, etc. Surely it's their duty to spell it all out as bluntly as possible (their condition, the implications and what to do about it). It's utterly crazy how it's tiptoed around and it's costing us taxpayers billions (but also making certain corporations billions which is why it's not really addressed).
And when they do raise the issues of obesity, the help and support is poor to useless as it is standardised and limited.
They do tell obese people to lose weight, just as they tell smokers to stop smoking and heavy drinkers to drink less. It’s one of those daft ‘Council cancels Christmas’ type stories.
Some do and in certain instances. For example, I suspect you may have the benefit of annual health checks and private care. Generally it's either pussy footed around or side stepped for fear of offending - that's the society that's been created. I know from various experiences (no, not obese myself).
For each of those things you mention, some Doctors do to some patients, but it isn't universal, and the support offered is minimal, which limits the point of them 'telling' them in the first place. It's similar with the underweight too, who have their own health issues, as do amateur sports people. Oh, and I have personally checked some of the 'council cancelled Christmas dubunked' claims, and found that it tended to be the 'debunked' bit that was false.
There has to be a fundamental change in the way the Health Service is funded and even more importantly run. When you have individual trusts buying equipment and necessities rather than buying from a central distribution point, there is something wrong. All of that merchandise would be approved and the buying power of significant orders would cut costs immediately. Too many managers who are **** whilst nursing and care staff are in the main brilliant.. For me at least, if my wage slip had a figure on it (maybe called health) that I knew was ring fenced, audited and managed, maybe based on earning capacity then I would be happy. As it is, whether its tax or NI we know it all goes into one pot, pays for HS2, Transport for London (they want another £2 billion or something like having already had a £4 billion bail out) and all manner of Southerncentric projects.
IT wise none of the computer systems 'talk' to each other & most would have gone the way of 'Ask Jeeves' in a world of choice - e.g. 'Google' in the commercial / public choice / usability -though fear not NHS 'contracts' allow questionable choices - e.g. https://www.itpro.co.uk/it-infrastructure/31946/failed-nhs-it-system-will-cost-7m-to-stabilise https://www.computerweekly.com/news...-to-spend-600m-on-CSC-Lorenzo-patient-records
