Considering how both France and Germany were quick to rule out invading, Blair certainly had an out he could have taken

And this is the issue with Blair: he's always had this pathological need to force his name into the history books which is why he was quick to rush to Dubyuh's side and enable his invasion of Iraq, because in his mind it's just the same as the routine bids to host major sporting events that were a regular feature of his time as PM

You mean the David Kelly who died from seventeen self-inflicted stab wounds to the back?

I suspect he did it for the wrong reason but letting the idiot Bush do it without us would have been very dangerous.

Not dangerous for us. Dangerous for the middle East and the world in general.

Don't know....as I said I can't be sure of the counterfactual. But I wouldn't have put a tactical nuclear strike beyond an unconstrained Bush.

In principle I don't agree with modifying foreign policy to not upset terrorists. And I don't think that IS would have needed much of an excuse. More a question of "when" with the rise of IS.

    More specifically :

When/where could a Sunni ideology collective exploit
political/military chaos to amass the numbers/tech
necessary to attempt their "grand plan" ??

Since 1980, I contend that the sh*t show of Iraq 2003
is to date the first and best opportunity.
