Remember when Helen Shapiro first had a hit record. Amazing voice for her age. Looking back on it she really had a good voice which would have lent itself to more serious stuff.
Saw them early 1965. Really good live band, better than a lot of the bigger names I saw at the time. Good excuse to play this which I always liked.
my second favourite 1960s band. there was a 4 cd set called zombie mania which i purchased many years ago. fantastic stuff.
true. i believe she did move towards some sort of jazz-related stuff eventually. one really weird fact is that she was once in a band with marc bolan. may have been at, or just after, school. and that reminds me of another weird fact - the future alvin stardust and the future gary glitter both had releases on parlophone before the beatles.
I saw both of them on a radio live show when I was about 12 at what is now Brid Leisure Centre. Glitter was then Paul Raven and Alvin Stardust Shane Fenton. One of the band doing the backing for the Joe Loss orchestra who supplied back up for them was Ross McManus, father of Elvis Costello.
