this is a statement of facts .. [ and not knocking your posting it WIZ, precis to a degree the accounts ... sort of! ]

highlights the realism that is football today ... pretty much what I said on other post ........

    ..........

But does it tell the real story? ..yes ...... and no!

REVENUE ... most likely true ... ..... Wages true for 1 years accounts, but disparity expected as no gate money. Suppositions made on 1st team playing staff wages! but total of 97 doesn't reflect the 16 or so that left [accounts to 31/05/21!]

Needs a lot more explanation .......
after day to day trading [10 years] = £21.4m per annum losses....wow .... add in costs of stadium rebuild and training centre [ not part of day to day trading ] ??? and over how long does £170m losses extend back to ... must mean somewhere, more than 10 years ago? we have made £44m profit?
i must press wrong button somewhere to get score through ...

RUGBY TEAM faired quite well, loss in single figures circa £4m but had better pro rata % income
their wage bill all staff is circa £10m ..... they pay circa £2m for ground .. sponsorship and league money circa £8m

Not all due to Covid surely, isn’t most of their revenue from TV which presumably they still got? Lack of crowds would amount to that big a loss would it?

Agree - the financial effect of the absence of fans would be minimal. A large proportion of Chelsea's reported loss would be through the amortisation of the value of players signed this past few years.

The likes of Pulisic, Havertz, Werner, Georgino, Kovatic, Kante, Rudiger, Arrizabalaga were all bought for big bucks and their value would have been amortised right down over the length of their contracts. Their high wages whilst there are a matter of contract and have to be paid.

If they get sold on for a decent fee, then that comes back as "profit on sales" in future accounts.

Maybe the mention of "fleece" was more of a racist comment?

You could be right, I guess, funny though phoned the tax office about 8 times in last 6 months and always been a man! dealt with my enquiry. Although a woman did send a confirmation letter stating I do not have to submit a tax return this year.

A woman walks into her accountant’s office and tells him that she needs to file her taxes. The accountant says, “Before we begin, I’ll need to ask a few questions.” He gets her name, address, social security number, etc. and then asks, “What is your occupation?” The woman replies, “I’m a whore.” The accountant balks and says, “No, no, no. That will never work. That is much too crass. Let’s try to rephrase that.” The woman, “Ok, I’m a prostitute.” “No, that is still too crude. Try again.” They both think for a minute, then the woman states, “I’m a chicken farmer.” The accountant asks, “What does chicken farming have to do with being a whore or a prostitute?” “Well, I raised over 5,000 cocks last year.”
