What Conte is demonstrating more than anything else is how the ability to motivate the players is key to their makeup

Nuno couldn't motivate them, which is why the only game they were truly motivated was the one against the Mansourites as they wanted to get stuck in
The ubermensch couldn't motivate them, in fact he was better described as a motivation vampire based off our second half performances
And, sadly, Poch lost the ability to motivate them during the 2018-19 season (CL apart) and after the final something was fundamentally broken

With this in mind, it does have to be asked about the other names linked with us about whether they could've done the job, for example it can be argued that ten Hag is a big fish in a small pond and could just as easily be another Koeman when stepping up a level, Rodgers certainly has a track record of motivating teams to a point but when he hits his ceiling it rapidly comes crashing down, and just looking at the Serie A table this season is making Allegri look like a dodged bullet

Obviously there's a few on the list who do appear to be good motivators, for example there's isn't a whispering campaign about Nagelsmann yet (which is, appallingly, one of the best compliments you can make of a Bayern manager given they're more prone to dressing room leaks than a sieve) and Rangnick is managing to get that little bit more out of players that Solskjaer never seemed to realise was there (which may sound like damning with faint praise, but getting that little bit more is exactly what Conte is doing) so on the one hand it was probably wise to let the field play out rather than make a kneejerk appointment - but on the other we ended up making a kneejerk appointment with Nuno anyway

My current line of thinking is that ENIC will definitely back him because they simply cannot afford not too.

Is that to Enic putting their hands in their own pocket or us not getting further into debt?

Sorry...you misunderstood my post. I meant that the people on the Board along with many people who were on higher wages would have thought furlough was a good option because they simply don't have the experience of trying to get by on minimum wages. I wasn't trying to justify the decision, just to explain how such cock ups occur

This goes back to what I said a few days back where there's a three-way game of chicken going on with some players, their current clubs, and prospective clubs

Kessie and Johnstone, for example, appear to have made their minds up that they'll move in the summer regardless of offers in January

They have to back him. If he quits then there is nowhere left for them to turn.

Rumours suggest that Conte is now coaching all the club's attacking players to run like this

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte says his "evaluation" of his squad is complete and he is awaiting a meeting with the club ahead of the January transfer window.

Spurs are unbeaten in seven Premier League games since Conte replaced the sacked Nuno Espirito Santo in November.

The Italian said he was sure "after only two weeks" in the role that the squad's quality needed to be improved.

"I made evaluations to understand which players I can count on," Conte added.

"I'm sure 100%. I made the evaluation after two months of work with my players. For sure now the situation is more clear than before.

"I am waiting to have a meeting with the club and then also to give my opinion about the squad and what I think about our situation."

Conte is confident France goalkeeper and club captain Hugo Lloris will stay at the club beyond next summer.

The 35-year-old's contract expires at the end of the season and he will be permitted to speak to overseas clubs from the start of January.

"Hugo is a Tottenham player, he's the captain. For sure he will talk with the club to try to find a solution," said Conte.

"I think Hugo wants to stay in his club, he loves the club, he stays well in Tottenham."

On midfielder Harry Winks, Conte said: "Winksy is playing well. Winksy showed to be a really able player. For this reason, Winks will stay here. I'm finding out which players are reliable and I can count on them. Winksy showed me I can count on him."

Conte was asked separate questions from journalists about Tanguy Ndombele's role in the squad - the Italian coach has previously called on Spurs record signing to put his "talent into the team".

Conte said: "I pay the same attention for every player. My concentration is not just on 12,13, 14 players. There are players that understand before, players that understand very well, there are others players need more time, or players for who it could be difficult to understand some situations."

He later added: "I repeat I don't want to talk about the transfer market and this topic. I think it is better for me and the club to speak together and then the situation will be clearer than now.

"Now to speak about players coming and going is not right. Is not honest."

He'll probably be waiting for the meeting until 5.58pm on January 31st, at which point he'll be invited to sit round a table with Daniel Levy, Steve Hitchen and Danny Welbeck.

Sounds like Ndombele is a gonner, not only by how little he said when questioned, but his body language screamed "I'd rather talk about anyone else" when it came up

There's also rumours going about that he doesn't rate Gollini

Nobody rates Gollini. His signing is on a par with Gedson Fernandes.

It's quite funny to me that he not only rates Winks, but has immediately given him a nickname.
He's got two simple, easy to use and remember names, too.
I suppose calling him Harry is out the window, though.

Another bad signing, least it’s only back up keeper and luckily he hasn’t had to play too much

Technically not, as we remember Gollini exists...
I'm still convinced that us loaning Gollini was more to grease the wheels for Romero's arrival than anything else
