For me, he represents the very scary allure of religion, religious leaders, saviours and the like and their ability to entrap the vulnerable into their web.
People like Jones and Koresh are not very different to more successful 'saviours' apart from it all came on top for them. They were willing to kill anyone to get where they wanted. Most religions are founded on these principles.

Was Jonestown much different to Salt Lake City? Had Jones made a few slightly different decisions he may well have become the rich man he wanted to be.

For me, people like him should remind us that religion is basically founded on fear, control and murder. He should make religious people uncomfortable.
