Yeah, we will be scoring 10 and the other team will get about 3 touches of the ball. I have said about 4 times since last night the lads played so well and at a tempo that had Sheff Wed looking like a bottom of the league team totally demoralised and turned to fighting our players.
See I didn’t think Wednesday were “honking”. I think they looked a good side coming forward (bar the finishing). At 0-0 I was quite worried. Once we scored though, we just took control
The work rate and pressing last night set the bar for me. The lads never stopped and ran sheff wed ragged if we can reproduce that teams won’t live with us
We made them look bad, there is a big difference to a team playing Shute and the opposition being too good.
“But Wigan and Rotherham have games in hand” was heard a lot last night. We’ll we’ve been second or third, 2 or 3 points behind and had games in hand. Points on the board creates pressure on the others. And our form must be scaring some
Agreed. But the point I’m making is that they didn’t look bad at 0-0 or 1-0. They played some decent football. Once it was 2-0 and 3-0 we just looked a massive class above them
Too right. I would much rather have the points on the board. The rest , notably Wigan, are going to have a nightmare build up of games that will wipe out their squad towards the business end of the season. I hope they stay in the cups for a bit longer.
I think the result and the way we played last night will have a lot of teams thinking "****" and hoping we don't play like that when they play us. I don't think it was just the scoreline but the way we beat a team that had the best defensive record in the league and had only been beaten 3 times beforehand
pretty much my thoughts, they are not a bad team we just never gave them time, some of their passing was excellent...apparently the 'expert' on quest said we did not play that well but the fact is we just kept it simple, nowt fancy just pass to a team mate and move.
As you may recall, I have always reckoned cup runs can be detrimental to league games/position. Mental and physical tiredness...
Once Bailey Wright flattened Patterson it was only going to end one way. I think the lads were well up for this one after the result down there. Once we started to move the ball the Wednesday defence were all at sea. Its a sight to behold when you see defenders racing back to defend with their faces to their own goal box. A special mention for Alex Pritchard. A super performance from the little man (Wokies can do one for me being politically incorrect)
Think the bloke on Quest said that we weren't playing at our absolute best yet and that we can get even better. It's quite different to saying we didn't play well.
To put in those performances when we have a right winger at left back, a centre half at right back and a bunch of kids on the bench certainly points to better times ahead. Be interesting to see how we line up in 8 days time now Cirkin has some game time under his belt and Winchester is back. Add a couple of solid signings and there are some real selection headaches coming up. Not sure I could even name our best team right now
that sounds more likely actually, i only went off what some other poster had said earlier, missed quest. early season form was good, then the slump (and i still blame that firmly at the door of the ref who allowed the ipswich game to go ahead) then a gradual turn-a-round as we got back to our early season best and still improving.
