We could make a massive statement by attempting to sign him permanently now despite his injury. Display how much faith we have in him. It could work wonders (or it could backfire massively)
Tough call for me. His injury record is really disappointing and would depend on any deal struck. That said, with this injury, we could maybe do a deal with Everton saying we will take care of the rehab but want him for x price. Or the club may like him as a play but worry about future injury lay offs and move him on.
Thought we'd all asked the club NOT to sign players when injured or those who are possible sicknotes. Yes he's a real gem in the making but this is his second hamstring injury this season and were only in December. He's going to miss four months out of a six month season because of injury and your advocating we should sign him up. Imo a better idea would be to keep him here during his recovery IF we don't need to use his loan slot as a show to the lad of our intent towards him and also show other clubs that we can be trusted to look after players being loaned into our club. We need some medical reassurance from Consultants that his hamstrings can be fixed and not be a reoccurring problem Then and only then would I try and sign him up as I would take him in a heartbeat. Just my take on his situation at present.
I presume surgery and strict physio may eliminate the problem of hamstring injuries or not? The problem, as with Calum Wilson at the skunks, is that being injury prone ( not like Hume's GBH) means some underlying ongoing physical problem that will keep recurring. This means of course playing football regularly is unlikely, if this is Broadheads issue we need to think carefully before signing him.
It seems it's all down to the surgeon if he stays or goes back to Everton https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/s...nathan-broadheads-sunderland-fate/?ref=twtrec
Aye it will be. If it's a grade 3 rupture which it will be given the 3-4 month timescale then it could require surgical repair. Rehab will be massive and lengthy if it goes surgical route. For a speedster like Broadhead, it really doesn't get worse than a grade 3 hammy.
not knowing his history, is this a 'regular' thing for him or has he just been unlucky here to do both in one season, also, will it be a recurring thing with him. i guess all the above need answers before we even think of making a bid (should that option be open to the club of course) then do everton feel he is worth taking a risk with or best off the books, as i said earlier i feel if he was going to have a future there he would have been recalled due to their own striker problems. he is obviously better than league one, he can run with the ball, knows where the goal is and his timing is excellent, a fit lad will be a great asset to have in the championship.
Hard lines for the lad this. Hope he's okay, but I imagine he'll lose a bit if pace after a tear as bad as that.
He was doing nothing he would not have been doing in any other game. He was running really, with a bit of contact.
he's 23(?) and hasn't had a game for Everton, I doubt he's a big part of their plans. we could probably take a gamble on signing him if the price was low enough, but if Everton decide to recall him to oversee his rehab then it frees up his wages to pay his replacent. I'm hoping that Speakman is busy looking for a replacement.
If the club is now being run as professionally as we think it is, Harvey will have been assessing, and reporting on, potential recruits for every single position, and I'm sure Speakman will have a list of possible options, as well as an opinion from LJ on them and on any younger reserve players, so that he's ready to move in January. We've been dreading an injury to one of our front runners,we haven't had enough cover......now it's happened that we're unlikely to see much of Broadhead again this season....I'm sure we'll be active very soon.
I don't know much about how injuries occur but I did think this was the case. Probably just a matter of time unfortunately. Could be the case his body was struggling to adjust to all the game time he was getting and needed easing in more although we'd only have known that in hindsight.
Back in the day, I think I rubbed some liniment, wintergreen? on my legs especially if it was cold. Smelly and hot iirc
We used to call it "oils". Had a nice, fresh, medical smell.Used to rub it on every match....was never quite sure what effect it had if any,but everyone else did it so......
As a kid I used to stand next to the tunnel at Roker and the dressing room were just inside behind us and you could smell the linament prior to each game. It's a smell I've never forgot, bit like hot bitumen which I love.
Did the same mate. I seem to remember I had some pink stuff my Dad used to get me. Used to cover the legs in the stuff and would warm them up. By the time we left the changing room everyones eyes were watering as everyone was doing the same thing and smell was brutal. I use Tiger Balm now for arthritis. Still has a smell, but nothing like whatever that pink stuff was.
