You're talking a specific side though and after the fact. In the context of having a points target then you don't know who that 17th placed team will be, but in a poor league such as this you can almost guarantee that 35 will be enough - the team who finishes 18th will year simply won't get that many, whoever it is. You can't say Burnley needed 39 as that would imply another defeat would have altered the outcome.
No, I’m saying to stay up you needed 39 points plus, as that was the lowest total above the bottom 3. The numbers I quoted earlier are the same. The lowest totals needed to stay up. No side has ever stayed up with less than 34 points, 35 points has been enough 3 times and 36 - 5 times. These are just facts.
You’ve got 57 points to play for, so of course it’s mathematically possible for you to stay up, and that will remain the case until it isn’t. The thing is, you’ve got 11 points from the last 57 available, so it’s gonna need some serious uplift.
I see your point as you're saying my target only works if you don't apply to whoever finishes bottom 3 in that particular season but as a general target to aim for in a poor league I'd wager it's sound. Cba to look I can't imagine many have gone with that amount in recent years. It may be a fact that the lowest totals are what you state but it's also a fact that lots of those were more than was actually required. I don't consider City as needing 100 points to win the league in 2018 as they could have lost another two games and still won the league. The end product is different to the absolute of what was required is how I see it. And to take it back to my initial point I'd be staggered if 18th place this year got 33+. Think we'll have to agree to disagree mate. Toon need a miracle to breach 30 anyway so I suspect it's irrelevant lol.
Yeah I got what you were saying mate, it’s just never been borne out in reality. The Toon are going to have to amass 25 points from 19 games imo. An average of 1.16 points per game. Their current average is 0.56. So they’re basically going to have to more than double their return from the 1st half of the season. This off the back of them possibly losing their main striker for a couple of months. They’re all banking on a January window miracle saving them, but I just can’t see it personally.
Good results today.. A couple more defeats for Watford Burnley and Leeds and nufc are right back out the ****. To go into Jan only 2 adrift looked impossible going into our December fixtures
