Allow the ref to discuss with the TMO (4th official) like in Rugby and introduce a 'daylight' rule for offside.

They changed the offside rule in the summer to allow more leniency.
Not sure where that went today and we're not supposed to see the lines anymore, either.

A daylight rule would give strikers the benefit of the doubt and mean every team scores another 20 odd goals each season.

Agree on the first. Don't see how the second helps. Abolishing offside altogether should be considered

It would just change the point where things become controversial.
We'd end up in the same position, which is needing better guide dogs for the VAR blokes.

Plus add that only the feet count , looked like they counted Kanes head , otherwise McGuire is at a massive disadvantage

Every replay I see of their goal I get more irritated with Hojbjerg. He literally jogs straight out from the goal rather than closing the ball down.

Kane is clearly further away from the mowing line than the last defender so either Southampton's groundsman gets pissed at work or VAR doesn't draw the line straight.

Agreed, you can't run on your head, so unless you score with your first touch, your head shouldn't count.

Go back further and Dele was brushed aside like a 12 year old, that never happened 3/4 yrs ago

I think we have to assume that the technology tells them which part of the player is the right part. It remains the case that the frame rate is too slow to be sure of decisions as close as that.

Nicked from COYS on Reddit, but I'll provide the full text.
The offside rule changed in the summer:

    "Law 11. Offside

    • Inclusion of the Law 12 definition of where the arm ends (bottom of the armpit) for the purposes of determining an offside/onside position
Changes to Law 11. Offside > 11.1. Offside position

    Additional text :
The hands and arms of all players, including the goalkeepers, are not considered. For the purposes of determining offside, the upper boundary of the arm is in line with the bottom of the armpit.

    Explanation:
The shoulder is not part of the arm for handball. It is therefore a part of the body with which a goal can be legitimately scored and so must be considered when judging offside."

    That decision is objectively wrong.

I think that this is a result which will positive in the long run for several reasons.

    1. Conte likes to get his team to have a us against the world mentality and this could well help him by allowing him to play on the "injustice" of the refereeing (also the uefa decision to kick us out of Europe).

    2. It is a reality check to him, Levy the DoF, the players and the fans that comings and goings are desperately need if we are to challenge for trophies and the top 4 this season and more in the longer term.

    3. It has shown that Dele (amoungst others) still needs to go and that Gil is not ready for Premier league football. It also shows that we are not getting into the top 4 or winning trophies without an attacking midfielder.

We should also remember that we have played 4 games in just 9 days...there is and was always going to be a drop off in performance.

Finally, Conte was right to try and rest players as we have 3 matches v Chelsea (two away) and a home match v Arsenal, plus a trip to Watford and an Fa Cup Match in the next 26 days.

The fact Conte still couldn’t trust Ndombele to come on against ten men when it was painfully obvious we needed a creative player shows how much we need to actually buy a creative player.

Surely there’s a few idiots out there dumb enough to make bids for Dele, Ndombele and Lo Celso to help fund our new playmaker… right? RIGHT?!

A daylight rule would reduce the amount of disallowed goals significantly, which would encourage attacking football.

I have generally liked Amazons coverage, but this has been some of the most biased coverage I have seen for a while - Southampton would have been unlucky if they had lost to Forsters own goal WTF, does that matter, we scored 3 legitimate goals and that was enough to win but for incorrect decisions by the ref (supposedly the best one we have!)

Would it? Wouldn't forwards just play higher up and be given offside just as often?
