Oh, at no point did I want them to win, for precisely this reason. But it doesn't stop me from thinking that they deserved to!
If the game goes badly for Newcastle on Thursday I can see them having a number of Covid positive tests (including the tea lady and kit washer) and a few more “injuries” in an attempt to have our game called off.
Doesn’t seem like the test is that stringent since I struggle to believe some of the teams who have called games off couldn’t pull together 14 players from all 3 of their squads
Given they had 17 plus GKs tonight you’d think they’d be okay. Amazing the little knocks a player might pick up in training though…..
In the 13 player rule, does anyone know what constitutes a ‘player’? Is it from the original 25 man squads? Ie at what point can you claim an academy player is not a player?
I believe it is the 25 man squad. Not sure how many teams actually name a full 25 seeing as players 21 and under don’t have to be named. Just counted ours and we do have 25 but that includes 4 keepers so a few covid/injuries and we could quite easily have games called off.
I would imagine both ASM and Wilson will be out for 6 wks min. They both pulled up hard, didn’t look like minor strains.
Looking like being a very good time to play Newcastle on Sunday. If they somehow manage to get the game postponed by not having enough fit players and gets rescheduled for February, we will then be facing the likes of Mbappe and lewandowski
So how does Ralph manage today? With half an eye on players for Sunday or not? All a bit convenient for Newcastle to try and push things back after January.
I can't recall seeing it confirmed anywere. But my own view is that clubs should be able to base it just on their 25 man squads. Granted, that would favour those clubs who named less than 25 players (ie they would need to be missing a smaller number of players), but so be it. Once you go beyond the formally registered players, it gets messy.
I see that the EFL have confirmed that for the Championship it is the 25 man squads, plus all under age players who have played at least once.
Gunn had another shocker by the looks of it Interesting that once again Palace had their first choice side out - two days after trying to get a game called off for covid And our result against West Ham surely looks better now ?
