Brilliant ! A codicil on the French banking system - as inflexible a system as I have ever come across. When we are in France (whenever that may actually occur again !) we live in a small cottage ( actually a comfortable shed) in department 16 ( Charente). There are 3 towns near us. The most attractive, and in some ways most convenient is Civray - 20km away. The last time we we were there we popped into the branch of Credit Agricole in Civray to pay a bill or two and ascertain our balance. We had set up the account in the nearest branch of CA to us - in Champagne Mouton, a village). Unbelievable. They could not do either of these things for us, because our account was registered in Dept 16 and Civray is in department 86 ( Vienne). As frustrating as it is charming !

And a lot of guts! Did anyone ever see the Dancing Diggers which this sort of reminded me of? Basically they were a troupe of JCB's who did a sort of dance routine and they were very good.
So do I, Fez. I think that’s the big attraction of that Repair Shop programme. I love watching experts in any field (at all, pretty much) of life; a tailor making a handmade suit from rolls of cloth, a baker throwing around large amounts of dough to make complex breads, a watch repairer mending a watch. It’s one of the things I love about YouTube - there’s any amount of rubbish on there, but you get some enthralling repairs or makes. I received some watch repIr equipment from my parents for Christmas, and a lot of electronics bits and bobs from my wife. I was excited like a kid on Xmas Day, just wanting to slope off and play... Not sure, but may have contracted Covid over Christmas. All awaiting PCRs. Been totally sensible, double-masking, just staying as us four, not seeing anyone, but I have a faint + on LFT, twice. Feel largely OK, but want to get tested, to be sure.

We all try to be careful, but it seems that there are still far too many in denial about there being a problem.
Ditto to that. Far too many don't see it as a problem - "it's no worse than a cold or the flu". For me, one of the silliest arguments is the "we need to learn to live with it" one - coming mainly from those who refuse to take the simplest of precautions that would actually help them do exactly that.
That sums up exactly how we feel. Fortunately, my Mum and Dad managed to get a slot with Tesco, as I couldn’t do the weekly shop for them. We see other countries’ politicians making decisions wholly in the interests of their people, but ours seem to be still playing politics, worrying more about backbench revolt than the population. Yesterday the BBC’s top story was ‘Scientists to brief PM before COVID decision’. This would be a standard position you’d have thought, but perhaps it’s not with ours, and thus warranted top headline.
I’d totally forgotten about them! I wonder how the initial idea was first pitched to the other lads down the pub?
