Was never signing a new deal, was all the talk he would be going to one of the big clubs when his contract was up. Spurs linked to buy him last summer but offering way less than what we wanted for him. Villa bid an acceptable amount, he could’ve said no and saw out his deal so we got nothing, but instead took the offer so we got £30m and could afford to buy a replacement.

By all accounts Spurs were offering something like half of what Villa did

He could have done a Hojbjerg and said he would only go to one place. So fair play to him for that. Rumours were Everton would have paid 25m so he stitched us up for 10m. That goes a long way for us

Yeah I would imagine our board were delighted when the offer came in from Villa. Ings could easily have said no, played his final season here then put his hopes on a top team coming in for him on a free.

Obviously the big risk from our perspective was relegation without Ings, but all we’d be doing is kicking the can down the road if we kept him and got nothing. We wouldn’t have been able to sign a replacement in that scenario

Now that their match vs Wolves has gone, their next two PL games are City at home and Spurs away. So it's not unreasonable to suggest that it'll be a month until they next pick up a point.

Tuchel appears to be complaining that the PL forced him into bringing Lukaku on (effectively) at HT, despite him not being fit enough.

Um, I think you were the one who decided to bring him on, Thomas.

Yeah my dad was just commenting on how empty it was there. But with Omicron fears and the time and it being Boxing Day it isn’t surprising

Boxing Day games always used to be absolutely rammed, I remember arriving at the Dell at 10:30 am to queue up for (I think) a Man U game in 196? and there were loads in front of us.

8pm and it being on TV likely doesn’t help

I just mentioned elsewhere that it's also worth noting that it's probably the hardest ground in the country to get to when there aren't any trains.

The ko time is beyond a joke which compounds the issue.

I'd suggest that the winner of this game (assuming there is one) is incredibly unlikely to go down. 23 points from 17 games (with a GD only just below zero) is a very nice position to be in.

Brighton then. Very difficult to see Brentford getting anything out of this. Their setup is too defensive to generate two goals

Brentford were on a bit of slide before that last minute penalty against Watford. Remember that their game in hand is against Man United (I think away)

Crazy to think that until about a year ago, Brighton had never used Sanchez - and his only professional football was a smattering of lower league matches.

He'd be no.1 for multiple PL teams.

Still absolutely buzzing see him struggle though. Sorry if that makes me petty.

But I hope the rest of his career is an abject failure

Not really petty. You are absolutely mental though. He wanted a different job and it happened to be mutually acceptable and beneficial to his employer. Who could possibly be this bitter about it?

As me the Saints fan for 40 odd years I would have stayed at Saints if I were in his shoes. It is though a job to him. Still love to see him fail miserably. Petty? Yep.

I'm a saints fan, aren't we all mental? I think he's a huge prick and hope his career goes downhill.
Same as lallana. Both are knobs. The worse they do the better
