Review of cheese. Laid out the cheese and port. My son, who was in a properly certified beer and turkey feast coma, while the rest of the family were for some reason watching Shutter Island, stirred, with the words “I am literally resurrected by cheese” Review of cheese: it’s good Now all watching Withnail and I. No need to review, we all know how good it is.
Just finished binge watching 'Mare of Easttown' on Sky Atlantic. 7 episodes in 3 nights. Almost gave up after first rather slow episode but very glad we stuck with it. Kate Winslett (never better) as a small town American cop investigating the murder of a 17 year old girl. Very good, recommend.
Finished the final season of Gomorrah last night - pretty gutted there will be no more as it's been a brilliant series, but it would be quite difficult to continue (not going to give away any spoilers). Truly brilliant TV
Christian Patat Appassimento. This beefy red wine has been mentioned on this thread before by Strolls. I can now attest to its miraculous healing properties. I unintentionally drank an entire bottle of it last night having Christmas drinks with neighbours. Everyone else was drinking fizz then white wine, until we all had a couple of ports and, even though I thought I would suffer for it, a peaty malt nightcap. Or two. I wasn’t walking straight as we drifted round the corner home. Miracle #1 - on arrival home I started following the cricket and was entirely calm during the shameful performance. So calm that I couldn’t quite believe it when I checked the score this morning, having suspected that I might have dreamed about England’s collapse. Miracle #2 - no hangover. Bit tired round the eyes but no pain at all. This is usually a sign of quality booze. Once again, wine ponces, appassimento is recommended.
That's probably my favourite from Naked. I got a magnum of it as the freebie with my pre-Christmas order and there's about a third left.
Just watched Rocky & Wrighty on BT Sport, a documentary about childhood friends from South London, David Rocastle and Ian Wright. Some great stories and ultimately very moving. Highly recommended. Rocky & Wrighty: From Brockley To The Big Time – Full Documentary - Bing video
A good day's viewing today. Just watched tick, tick...Boom!, which was recommended by my son. Not something that I would have expected to like, but it was brilliant.
Heard a young singer on Nihal Arthanayake's show this afternoon, called Lola Young. She has a sensational voice, a kind of cross between Adele and Amy Winehouse. Sure to be a big star.
She's heavily tipped to do big things this year https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-59727359
Mostly. Check out tick, tick, BOOM! It's really good. You seem like someone that would enjoy musical theatre.
Leonard Cohen tribute on Sky Arts right now....Nick Cave doing a great version of Suzanne....and now Jarvis!
Ponce exclusive.... please log in to view this image My daughter brought a bottle of this round over Christmas and it's really excellent. £8.50 in most supermarkets.
Have long been a fan of Californian wines since living in the US 20 years ago ($hit was it that long ago!!). Good quality out there at reasonable prices. And the good vineyards use French vines for their grapes (some good Chardonnays out there).
