This variant has been here for at least two weeks now, probably longer, but hospital admissions are still pretty stable, people on ventilators are still falling slowly in numbers, and despite hysterical talk of infections "doublling every two days", which would have been the whole country in about a fortnight, infections on a much increased testing programme, are high, but at the moment pretty constant. The BBC, in particular, only ever massages the news to encourage crisis. They have been beyond disgraceful. This is obviously a nasty virus, as I can say from first hand experience, but the treatments are much better now and the vaccines obviously hugely reduce serious illness and deaths. It's a threat, a bad one, but it sits with all of the others. Probably around 6 or 7 percent of deaths are currently covid related, in the winter, after six months of people largely doing their own thing. A holistic approach has to be taken, and we have to live with it.
Talking to a friend from Sheffield the other day reckons Sheff Wed had 12 cases and rising. They have called off their boxing day game. Think our game on 30th must be in serious doubt.
Echo article claiming still in doubt... https://www.sunderlandecho.com/spor...ield-wednesday-fixture-still-in-doubt-3506619
Is there a set number of players that get covid before it can be cancelled? Last year everyone had to self isolate when in contact with someone but rules are different now aren't they if vaccinated just keep doing lateral flow tests?
Everton v Burnley off. And Conte reckons the PL managers meeting was a waste of time... https://www.skysports.com/football/...remier-league-meeting-felt-like-waste-of-time
'Due to covid cases and other injuries' What's going on there? It sounds like they're using covid as an excuse to cancel the fixture. Injuries shouldn't even come into it so unsure why they've brought that up.
Sorry to hear that, what an awful time for it to happen. I hope she gets over it quickly and makes a full recovery.
