Complete opposite view. Just do a winter break. Every other country does it but us. same way every other country did var a certain way but from us. every other country went with 5 subs. Apart from us. We think we’re special over here but really just get laughed at. Time we actually stopped thinking we’re the custodians of football and our way is right. Winter break, give everyone a break over Xmas and then start again in the new year.

You are correct Complete opposite views Just cause others do it doesn’t mean it’s right either why should football be rested at a time when people would like the entertainment many industries have to continue so why shouldn't they ? if all leisure, hospitality, Tourism shut down cause they felt like being with their families - how would people react if the services then turn round and said - we’ll do you know what ?…. it’s a crazy logic We keep getting told the footballers career is so short Once this happens in a few years they will be complaining about where the fixtures are moved too It will never stop it’s like people who move in next door to a pub then complain about the noise as I say - done I think Need to calm down
I think it's ridiculous that managers and players moan about the schedule when they're directly benefiting financially from that schedule. TV companies are paying to air matches, the Christmas period is the busiest time and therefore the most profitable period. That money is passed to clubs who in turn pay ther manager and players more as a result (rather than passing it fans by discounting tickets). Introduce a winter break and the club's would instantly moan when the tv revenue is reduced. The manager and players won't moan though, already got their signed contracts haven't they?
Football isn’t a necessity though. Totally different from police and service etc. people still injure themselves, fires still happen and so on. And they get paid extra for working on those days. I could quite easily go 2 weeks without football over a time when spend time with the family etc. I wouldn’t have watched the Boxing Day game anyway as will be out with family. Same with New Year’s Day games. Each to their own though
Don’t see why not. Amazon are showing all the 28th games. Makes no diff to them when they’re shown as they broadcast all games at same time anyway so aren’t exactly getting more or less views depending when it is. People aren’t buying amazon to go watch 1 game of football a season.
And where will you be going out Not trying to be personal - but that’s my point. The services, as you say, are a necessity However the fun things are because certain industries remain open I have no beef if everyone and everything is closed down So all tv shuts down, leisure and entertainment ceases Radios silenced but if you go into an industry that has always done something and there is no real reason to change it (which there isn’t) then you shouldn’t be trying to change it imho.
Football over Christmas was a thing. I get that. But then the league cup wasn’t a thing then. And the CL in current format. And the nations league. And the world club championship. So shoved all those comps in and expect players to continue to play with no break. Id rather watch less high quality games thanks.
Also a lot of places rely on the Xmas trade as it’s a big time of income for them so shutting them down would be detrimental. pubs and places prob make a lot of money on Boxing Day, day after etc. So not sure it’s even remotely similar to playing football over Xmas
And the top end clubs have big squads to deal with that. If Klopp had known the Leeds game was postponed yesterday does he play the squad he played last night ? I would rather the competitions which have been integral to our history were continued Otherwise we may aswell just pile into the ESL and bin off FA and LC ? Less games and higher quality was their mantra
It’s nothing to do with similar I am one of those who relies on that money hence me working I knew when I got into the jobs I got into that I would be expected to work at certain times. you don’t see ents teams who work all year round clambering together to get Christmas off they know and understand it’s a busy time football has always been busy at christmas and the people involved in it are trying to change it - football is entertainment imho their decision has knock on effects also as we have seen with covid what do you think not playing games at Christmas, when people are off will do to those facilities- Tbf it could go either way but I would wager those venues will be quieter at a time when they need the trade. you agree and I don’t as you said each to their own
Do they? If that was the case we wouldn’t have had multiple games postponed over the last 2 weeks. And I’m not sure what the second point has to do with anything? Obviously if didn’t have another game 2 days later then yeah prob plays a diff team. But that’s the point. So many games that have to play reserve teams which diminish the quality of the football. Have a winter break where don’t cram games in every 2 days and teams have to rotate the squads and play players through injury etc and quality of the football should go up.
Won’t having a two week break lead to us cramming the games somewhere else ? the games are getting postponed cause teams are using a national crisis to their advantage - just like in all areas of football Teams and Managers will look to gain advantages wherever they can - do you honestly believe Leeds are unable to get 14 players between squad and u23s ? let’s just see where we end up playing our rearranged fixture. this all leads to ESL for me as the whole less games higher quality is what they are after - like I say this may be it for me anyway I am out as this is annoying way more than it should Hope you have a good Christmas mate
