I've got my Mum coming down boxing day and the travelling back on 29th, so I suppose it could affect that.

Not really though, as whatever they bring in will be ignored as far as the household mixing is concerned.
That should very definitely be a personal choice by everyone involved as it makes no difference to anyone else.
Not really bothered that they plan to cancel NYE again. Is anyone? Really?

Few restrictions in the first couple of weeks in January with do any harm. It's probably ideal time and quiet anyway.

I can't see it being a full blown lockdown though.

Does make me wonder what happened to those in hotels the last time lockdowns were announced. Imagine if they lock you in and charge you £2000 each for the privilege :bandit:

My mum is in the vulnerable category, so during the first lockdown I still saw her as she relies on me to an extent, so she forms part of my extended household.

If there was a lockdown, we wouldn’t be able to go out for Xmas, but I suppose we’d just have it at home instead and it wouldn’t be a huge sacrifice to make. So I’m fortunate in that way.

As things stand, I’m pretty happy to go with our arrangements, and take precautions. I’ll be doing a test before we go out Xmas day and I’d hope others at the same place do likewise.

As for Boris. I think he’s damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t tbh. He’ll resist a lockdown for as long a he can though as he knows there are folk out to get him within his own party. Also as Tobes mentioned, he’s personally against lockdowns anyway.

Like you, I just want them to let us make the choices this time. Boris is fooked now either way and I don't really care, I just want him to let us see Christmas out then they can stick him on a NYE bonfire.

It's just sod's law mate. I had a feeling it would happen a few weeks ago when I booked it which is why I reserved a place with free cancellation. Still gonna be a downer though purely because the whole thing was for the kids. It would've been poetic irony if the show I've booked was Scrooge.... bah humbug! <grr>

I think most people would accept that. Apart from the Covid nutters of course. But for most ordinary folk, they just want to see their family at xmas and not take unnecessary risks. After that, I think most would be accepting of it.

If the trend continues and it’s those who are unvaccinated who are needing the most care and blocking up ICU beds, then any further restrictions should be on those who have chosen to not take the vaccine imo. They’d cry like ****, but it’s them who’s making that choice and sometimes choices have consequences. Last time it was the vulnerable who had to lock away, well they now are the vulnerable so…..

Was listening to the radio earlier, interview with a German doctor, where they have it really bad. He was saying that they aren't even out of the 4th wave of Delta yet and if they get hammered with Omicron (which looks inevitable) then those who have refused to have a vaccine should be made to pay for any treatment.
