Yep was just a rumour . I would say they are stalling on it but it would need to go through parliament wouldn’t it? So can they wait much longer on new measures ?
They would probably do what they did with Plan B - implement it immediately and vote on it retrospectively.
I also think it’s a very interesting situation to contend with. Within the previous 18 months, Boris played his populist role and said ‘stick with me on this one and there won’t be any more restrictions’ or rolled out ‘cautious but irreversible’, ‘jab and go’ etc. Now, those who went along with those lines are almost certainly in disbelief at anything he has to say anymore anyway, so what’s the answer? If the government want any chance of public support for measures they want in place, they have to oust him. To stick with him might mean a passive admission that any restrictions they put in are meaningless, resigning the critically ill and vulnerable to become even more so.
Those who went along are in disbelief. And most of the rest never believed what he said in the first place It isn’t a good spot to be in
I think it's pretty obvious that Boris is concerned that right now there will be too much opposition from his own party for any further restrictions to pass through parliament. Hence the ridiculously vague statement.
This is pretty much my view. I will probably comply with any new restrictions, because I believe they are probably necessary. On the other hand, I will not be blaming anyone (other than those who have flouted the restrictions throughout) for not taking it as seriously as it needs to be. I will not be giving this rancid, stinking pile of fetid dingo’s kidneys of a government any more benefit of the doubt any more. They have ****ed us all over completely.
He’s not wrong Still probably not enough for the vote to fail. But another embarrassment for him that he’d sooner avoid. I assume his ego can’t handle it
Absolutely, though I would say what probably also aided public belief at the time was the insistence that he was following the science. It made sense: get a vaccine, cases and deaths drop, back to a (new) normal. But then every lie begat another, then the sleaze surfaced, then it resurfaced and topped up a bit more. Of the numbers who have got a booster, I’d suspect that it is much more to do with people choosing that it is how they want to protect themselves and nothing to do with Boris saying it’s the only way to combat omicron and keep us from restrictions.
Oh absolutely. It was summed up in the latest Jonathan Pie video. “F you I won’t do what you tell me” but that he will get the booster because HE wants to. Not because Boris has told him And that is where I am and I am sure many many others
Like Chilco I will probably comply with any new Covid rule changes, but unlike him I will blame and criticise those that do ignore them. What Johnson and his cohorts have done in the past, with regards to the rules, was wrong and people breaching them in the future, because he did in the past, is just ridiculous.
The problem is that there is no reason to believe the rules se necessary if those at the top clearly don’t believe that they are Most organisations refer to “tone at the top” for a reason.
If Whitty says they are needed then they are needed. Quotes from this morning’s press include Sage saying that hospitalisations could surge to 10000 a day if urgent action isn’t taken and “government advisors” already think the actual omicron infection rate is well over 100000 a day.
Could as in worst case scenario. Which isn't going to happen as the majority of vulnerable people have had their booster.
Yeah I agree that it's a bit odd if people decide not to abide based on the no 10 parties. If you believe in something then surely it doesn't matter what Boris does? I decided back in the Summer that I wouldn't be adhering to any more lockdowns should they happen. Enough is enough and time we accepted that there's always going to be a new variant of one kind of another.
Sage have always planned for worse case scenarios and even though they always fall well short(thank god), this continues to be how they are told to operate by the government. This scaremongering is why some people want further lockdowns and restrictions. The fear being pushed by MSM is insane! This then leads to the common man/woman repeating this stance as they fully believe what they have been told. Words like tidal wave, monsoon etc are being used for a reason - F.E.A.R and control! I for one will not comply, I already don't wear a mask and will def not see my mum from the doorstep this time! Enough is enough!
I am not too prepared to go along with the line of “if Chris Whitty says they are necessary” For starters we don’t really have any evidence on what he actually thinks and by all accounts he would have gone for measures far sooner than we did when this first started and was ignored. So what is to say he isn’t being ignored now ? And I also urge people to take another look at that funeral video. And tell me that the bloke stomping in and forcing them apart was really necessary? And really what a Chris Whitty intended I’m sorry but if you look at that and think that it was necessary and reasonable then that says a lot about you that I don’t really want to put words to. And the same about Chris Whitty if he watches that and thinks “yes - that is a measured and reasonable response” It goes to show how cowed we have become that the lady’s sons actually moved away. Rather than turning around and telling that guy where to go. I know he was doing what he was told but how far would he really have taken it? Do we think he would have phoned the police on two men who had lost their father on the day of his funeral. I sure f’n hope not
