We live in a society where any political decision appears to have been run through a focus group, or must keep voters happy as the first priority. In the days of the very great Clem, leaders would govern in the interests of the people and be judged at the very end of every fourish years, instead of being micro-managed by social media. This leads to ‘leaders’ lacking the balls to do what is in the nation’s interest, i.e. having a firebreak lockdown to assist the desperately struggling NHS. On the other hand, can you imagine having a ‘leader’ like Johnson, with Mogg, Hancock (only latter syllable necessary) and their equally irresponsible and immoral cronies, being allowed the freedom of twentieth century politicians? Holy sh|t. <yikes>

And I wouldn’t trust Starmer further than he could be tiddly-winked, either.

The Government’s wine cellar cost £73,091 last year, which is £26,185 more than it cost the year before.
I wonder if they save the better ones for garden parties?

From someone in the know - someone whose business has been subject to the full Brexit regulations for 12 months now and knows all about the red tape.

"So folks there you have it, from just one document (pre Brexit) the supplier would create, to several barriers to trade which many will have no idea about on both side of the channel despite this coming into force in 8 days.....Brexit simply isn’t working and those that have been dealing with the full version on excise goods can see the impending plane crash."

Just received another parcel without having to pay import duties. It has come from the "British Hamper" company that our son uses quite often for a Christmas present to us. The reason there is no duty to pay is that the company now has set up in Holland. Other companies have done the same thing, or gone out of business.

"I have spoken to Secretary of State, there is a world shortage of Lateral Flow & PCR test supplies, but we are buying all that are available." Sir Roger Gale MP
"Is any part of the system working right now?" "I did my lateral flow this morning, but the website to enter the result has failed." (“Technical issue”).

Yet daily infection numbers in England are at record levels and, probably more importantly, hospitalisations per day are the highest for the whole year. I seem to remember that, when the bat first hit the fan, there was a train of thought that said the virus couldn't live in the heat of summer. Could that not be what is happening in South Africa right now?

That wasn't the Omicron variant though - which, as far as I can see, hasn't taken hold there - yet.
