The million dollar question. Impossible to say because even those who believe it might say there is a shortage of data to back up the claim. Certainly Delta and Omnicron it’s believed to be less effective in stopping transmission. Looking around, looking at our vaccinations levels, looking at countries with really really high vaccination levels, it doesn’t appear to stop it. But I think it’s foolish to try and suggest either way 100%. Obviously the government will say it does because they are trying to persuade/coerce people to get the vaccine. It certainly doesn’t stop transmission, there are triple jabbers passing it to one another. We’ve had this in our workplace on Friday. But in terms of what level of transmission it prevents I don’t think anyone can answer that for you. Certainly not someone who runs a building company mate
People have just become militant about vaccination mate. That’s not based on evidence. It’s just you get idiots like Biden saying “it’s a pandemic of the unvaccinated”. That’s clearly not true and is just tactical to try and force people to get the jab.
A mate who is an anti vaxer and quite switched on claims that he believes the vac has no bearing on the virus and transmission. He says you get carriers and it makes no difference whether your vaccinated or not. I said that is fine. However you choosing not to get vaccinated increases the risk that he will get poorly. He said he’s fine with that. So it’s his choice. My argument to him is then that’s selfish because your choosing to increase your own chances of getting the virus, potentially putting a strain on the NHS unnecessarily. Using up a space that someone dying might have needed. His response was quite poor: it’s my choice!
You get studied like this which suggest at best minimal. https://www.thelancet.com/journals/laninf/article/PIIS1473-3099(21)00690-3/fulltext Even then though they admit the sample size was too small to be published. They’ll be conducting much wider studies, but we are in the eye of the storm sadly so data is difficult to analyse because it’s a constantly moving landscape.
Its not a poor response mate. It’s always an individuals choice vaccination, it’s always should be a choice what goes in your body. We’ve had laws on this since the Nazis for a reason. Many don’t believe the vaccines are effective in stopping hospitalisation. I think Lorraine Kelly got caught out recently for saying 90% of hospitalisations were unvaccinated. Some statistician pointed out the government/NHS own data showed this was actually 36%. Ofcom got a load of complaints so Kelly apologised and tried to fudge it. Personally I think people should do what’s right for them. I don’t think agree with coercion either way. The problem is if you keep lying to people in the way Kelly did, all that happens is you get caught out and it ends up counter productive to what you were trying to achieve. Early signs on this variant are it doesn’t appear to be as deadly for all its more transmissible. Again though all sides agree it’s way too early to say that as hard and fast. Even that term anti vaxxer is a product of brain washing through media. Many have had other vaccines, but just like people choose not to have the flu jab, it’s no ones business.
We’ve all got one, a friend like that. Often there is just enough ‘good’ to outbalance the ‘bad’ - otherwise they’d have been jettisoned shortly after meeting them. But keep an eye on him, reassess on a weekly basis and if his good/bad balance shifts the other way; he’s out on his arse.
misdemeanours should be weighted - Low negative points for “supporting a **** club” and “liking poor beers” High negative points for “being an angry conspiracy theorist” (as opposed to a fun one) and “talking about Mrs GG inappropriately” I stopped using a spreadsheet years ago, I just keep a mental tally now
Well it depends what he means by illuminati but he sounds a bit lost to be honest. There are plenty of rabbit holes on the internet you’ll never come out of if you get too engrossed in that stuff. You should dissociate that from other people who don’t get the vaccine though. Whether that be for religious reasons or whatever, people are entitled to do their own thing. That’s the law currently end of story.
yes but I’d love to think that if he gets a rotten hit of covid he’ll stay away from hospitals irrespective of the severity
No he’s paid his taxes I assume, so he is entitled to the same care as a triple vaccinated person who ends up needing hospital care.
That wider “rabbit holes” point….. I find some conspiracies that I’d quite like to show an interest in - but theorists are SO absolutist about them that I ended just wanting to laugh; the messengers strangle the message. Especially the angry nuts. That’s why I never watch Question Time.
Some of it undoubtedly is based on fact. I just find as with those in power, they lose me with the lies and stretching the truth. Plus spending all your time researching something on the internet which regardless if you’re right about, you can do **** all with the information, can have zero impact with the knowledge, seems a bit crazy to me. You’re here for a limited amount of time, the world is a cool place, I don’t see why you’d waste time on that.
Made a related to comment to a mate of mine who’s always posting thoughtful/deep things on facebook - I wonder how people find any joy in life if they are constantly intellectualising everything. well, actually I just posted “Whatever”, but he’ll read between the lines
