It doesn't even without the virus. If we're going to have FIFA sponsored tournaments the players should be protected. It's not fair to the African players. Either enforce a winter break for all leagues to allow for winter tournaments or play the tournament in existing breaks. The people who are hurt worst by this are the African footballers themselves... Not necessarily ours or those in big clubs who have resources, but in the marginal clubs who may pass up an African footballer because they would leave for this tourney. It makes no sense having international football overlapping club football. I've always thought they should just lump all international football into two blocks. Give it 6 weeks in the summer and 6 weeks in the winter... None of this constant start/stopping and overriding club games.
To be fair I think they did move it to the summer but then had to postpone it due to pandemic. And obviously Africa gets bloody hot in the summer so having it then is even more of a detriment to players health? Its a tough one for sure. Other option is to have it in summer but based outside of Africa but then fans won’t be able to attend properly. Don’t see an easy fix for this.
That's why I suggested two windows, with one in the winter as well. Of course, does little good if not enforced like the summer one is.
Rodgers is having a moan that he is not allowed the game off thursday as he has nine players put however very fee are covid and apparently they got with spurs and dreamed up the excuse to get it postponed and spurs could play the european tie instead. Now... as sympathetic as I am to spurs going out of europe they didnt exactly have any sympathy when we had to play u18s in league cup v west ham and lost 5-0 So I say **** them all. It does however say that spurs must fulfil our fixture on sunday unless we have the rona
I liked Rodgers saying some of the injuries were due to corona because they couldn’t rotate. I mean that’s pushing it a bit
We played a League cup quarter final with the youth team as we had no one available, so I fail to believe teams can't field a half decent team. Having said that, no one wants COVID and health should be put above all else.
Standard Brighton game. Dominate, create some great chances, don’t score. They really need to go all out and spend 30m on a striker that’s going to get them 15 goals a season otherwise gonna get dragged into relegation again.
Tbf origi would score goals at mid table prem club I reckon. But we’ll need him this season as cover unless we buy in January.
The seasons aren't the same all over Africa anyway. North and south are opposite, and in the tropical regions there's little variation in temperature all year round. The wet and dry seasons are more pertinent to them, and they want to avoid the monsoon season. I think late summer is really wet in Cameroon. Our winter months are their driest so it makes sense for them.
How the hell was that a foul let alone a second yellow in the West Ham arsenal game. Sliding tackle, clears the ball and gentle taps the arsenal player on the follow through. I know refs penalise follow through a more but this wasn’t even remotely dangerous. Pathetic decision. Var has had some shockers in the last week with the pens at the weekend for city and Chelsea and now this red card.
Some hack at the Beeb talking about losing players to Afcon: I wonder if they ever actually watch football.
