This one shouldn’t even be close even with the excuses they will trot out about by elections, protest votes etc

And maybe it still won’t be

The Lib Dems are right on them, but unfortunately the Labour candidate has spent his time leafleting against them, rather than uniting efforts against the Conservatives.

A two part system with conservative vs anti conservative would probably save us from so much of what is going on. But so many petty self interests

And just the undeniable fact that the conservative coalition is more unified than all those to the left of them (somehow despite being diverse among themselves)

Andrew Neil and the Daily Mail encourages me to think there's a bit more to it. Subsequent information says the sheer number of infections is likely to lead to increased pressure on health services worldwide with non urgent procedures postponed everywhere to concentrate on booster jabs. We've been living with greater restrictions here in the Netherlands, masks, Corona passes and reduced opening, no fans at the footy and more.

Massive coordinated effort is required to distribute and administer vaccines worldwide otherwise the mutation cycle will continue.

Edit, should probably be on the CV thread.

The Tories will seek power at all costs which unifies them hence we end up with Johnson. The Socialists are more interested in ideology which leads to their division and hence lack of electoral pragmatism.

I find it quite sickening that Tory MPs have been calling the Covid Plan B akin to living in Nazi Germany, when those same MPs want people to produce ID for voting, are passing laws that outlaw loud protest, passing laws that can end someone’s citizenship without warning and are now looking to rewrite the Human Rights Act, which will not be beneficial to the majority of the public.
Their comparison with Nazi Germany bears weight, but only when compared to what the Tory government is enacting into law and by the way they use the media for propaganda purposes.

A complete lack of pragmatism in service of ideological purity is basically the one constant of socialist thought dating back to the days when Marx, Lavrov, Bakunin and Plekhanov spent most of their days writing polemics decrying one another. Unless you consider the Montagnards of the French Revolution to be socialists, in which case it dates back to the days where they were actively guillotining each other.

    Further to my previous comment.
I spoke with my son’s partner yesterday, and she confirmed that they had been given zero warning about Johnson increasing the booster jab target and explained how difficult it is for them to organise additional clinics above and beyond what they are already doing.
In the first instance there are only so many people available to vaccinate the public.
They cannot just cancel GP appointments to free up time and space to increase the vaccination rate, which means that the additional vaccination clinics are being staffed by many people who are working beyond their contracted hours and who are often very tired as a result of the extra hours they are working.
So, if anyone can’t get an appointment, or has to queue for an hour or two, please don’t take it out on the staff who are running the clinic.
They are doing the best that they can in extremely difficult circumstances.

Just had my booster this afternoon, in a local Health Clinic. Appointment made online two days ago; queued for 20 minutes, straight in and out, hats off to all the professionals involved.
Bollocks to Boris though, obviously <ok>

Like most working in the NHS I recieved a couple of emails on Monday requesting all staff offer extra time to help get the jabs done or prepare to be moved to such a role as the service requires. I'm very fortunate in only working part time in a role I enjoy, but many of my collegues are actively looking for ways to get out now.

To highlight how demoralised the staff group is my wife, also retired and on a NHS bank contract, has agreed to be a temporary Team Manager as her local one has gone sick due to stress. It's mad that none of the permanent staff even want to 'act up' in the role. In the past this would've been seen as a route to promotion, now it's seen as a poisoned chalice.

Of course with perfect timing the government sent letters out last week saying the Covid relaxation of financial penalties for retired staff who returned to help out will end in March. This will result in a significant number of nurses leaving the NHS or drastically reducing their hours. Nice one Boris.

This is, IMO, a must watch video, that clearly identifies how the government are moving ever further from democracy towards a dictatorship.

Thank you for the part you and your wife have played in helping to control this dreadful pandemic.
The final paragraph just shows how little regard the government have for “real” people.
