I’m going to throw something a bit left field out there, what about moving Pukki to left wing and playing Sargent as an authordox target man/pressing forward. Pukki making his intelligent runs from deep would be much harder to pick up and Sargent can chase the defender down all day and get flick one for Pukki. Was this where Pukki played his first few games for us when Rhodes started the season up top?
As I recall Teemu played on the right with Rhodes as striker and looked effective there doing what you describe. Once Teemu started scoring and Emi worked his way into the team, Rhodes dropped to the bench.

I think it's quite clever, given our shortage of CBs. Sørensen can play as DM and deep playmaker when we have the ball and drop back as a third CB in front of Gibson and Kabak when we don't. It's a flexible 4-1-2-3 with decent attacking power as well with Gilmour and McLean feeding the attacking players. Clever stuff.
I like to think he's getting to see what each of the players can offer in a real game rather than on the training ground. Really hope for his sake that Sorensen shines tonight.
I think he's always been a more pragmatic than dogmatic manager (which Farke was). Realistically, the transfers in the summer built a rounded squad but moved us away from Farke-ball. Farke struggled to use the squad as well when it didn't suit his principles. Given there's no strong identity with how we play this season, might as well match the team to the opposition, and use that as an opportunity to keep the squad fresh and give everyone chances, rather than try and play in one way and alienate half the squad. With that said, there's clear opportunities for people to force their way into first team contention each week. A decent performance at DM from Sorensen and he probably keeps that role for at least a month. Cantwell, Placheta can also make big claims tonight. I like the lineup, realistically we're matching up to Villa's 4-3-3. Both teams have a striker, winger and creator in their front 3, with a more workmanlike midfield behind it.
