I do find it a bit rich that MPs are worried about a dystopian society where freedoms are curtailed and rights threatened when they have consistently taken away rights over the years ... they have made it so difficult for unions to legally strike by bringing in a law that says a simple majority in a ballot is not OK...a yes vote has to be over 50% of the entire membership not just those than bother to vote... if they did that for general elections, council elections or referendums nothing would ever be decided.

These same MPs are also cool with peaceful protestors being filmed by police and the film and photos being kept on file.

This is a photo from the London cop26 demo. There were dozens of them doing this on the route plus at least 2 helicopters plus several vans ... par for the course in my experience.

The MPs complaining seem hypocritical to me.

They're also happy with requiring ID to vote and bunging human rights legislation out the window.

That makes no sense, because what you are saying in your very first sentence, is that because it's been around for yonks, it's ok, by saying you wouldn't cite it as evidence.

The way you implement a distonian state without objection, is by doing it slowly and gradually, over decades, in other words by public consent - so that each subsequent generation are born into the new measures and know no differently.

So you start off with CCTV to 'protect businesses' then you move to 'ANPR' to make sure every vehicle is registered. However, we know already that number plate recognition is used for many purposes other than crime, such as monitoring where you park and for how long. We know CCTV is used for purposes beyond protecting businesses by issuing fixed penalty notices, for all kinds of reasons to generate revenue.

Then the new wonders of mobile phones, gradually we have seen an erosion of manual business to bring in digital business, which makes it virtually impossible now, to go about your daily life without a mobile phone or at the very least, access to the internet.

We now have doorbell cams being installed on house after house, fook knows what this is going to be misused for in the future, it's already being used against mail deliverers who don't do their job properly.

The list is endless it just goes on and on, we have all sleeped walk into this, so no, i don't trust any government, whether that be in China, Austria or the UK.

Make something seem the norm put it on mass sale, and when people part with cash for something, they readily accept it, mobile phones, bell cams etc, without any thought of what you might be buying in too, that in decades to come could be misused.

Wait until the next Hitler or the next dictator comes along, the UK and Europe is fast heading the way of China, we are only the detention centres behind.

My argument against the passports is that being vaccinated doesn't stop you getting infected and in fact if you had 2 AZ jabs 4-5 months ago you have pretty much the same chance of getting infected by the Omricon variant as an unvaccinated person though hopefully better protected against serious illness therefore make more sense to have negative test proof .

I don’t disagree that’s there’s a creep towards a distopia, I just don’t agree that CCTV and ANPR are examples of that.

Like others have said, I would agree that parts of the Crime and policing bill, taking away people’s rights, including the right for peaceful protest. The amendments to the human rights act. And the systematic failure to ever face down the corporate criminals that rob this country of £119bm each year, are far greater threats.

Sorry mate but laying in the road and stopping ambulances ferrying people to hospital isn't a peaceful protest imo.

Ive seen those people beiing assaulted dragged, kicked and punched and not retaliate once.

How much more peaceful do you want? stay at home and protest by yourself in silence? Cos that the way its goin

    No.
Whats that got to do with being allowed to protest peacefully though?

I may not agree with thier choice of prtesr but i fully believe in ther right to do so. Its the peoples only power againt government when government stops doing ehat the peiple want and does what the **** it likes instead (like now) and once its gone they will make extremely hard to get back.

I agree with all this. When the twats glued themselves to tube trains, why didn't they just drive off. They would only have to do it once and that would be the end of it.

I didn't agree with the tactics of Insulate Britain

But of course you know that peaceful protest takes all sorts of other guises.

Anyway, one aspect of the bill relating to protest :

'Protest-banning orders can require people to keep police up to date on their current residence and can include restrictions on who people can meet, where they go and when, and their use of the internet. Breach of these conditions could lead to a 51-week jail sentence, an unlimited fine or both'

That's what a Distopian society looks like.

Yep. I'm all in favour of negative test as being the measure.

I don't think there can be any reasonable objection to that imo.
