Good Morning. It's Tuesday 14th December, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

    Fans anger over ticket sell-out

Hundreds of bitterly disappointed Leeds fans took to social media yesterday to vent their anger having missed out on tickets to see Burnley (hopefully) get trounced at Elland Road on January 2nd. Since returning to the top flight, membership has grown tenfold, meaning the likelihood of being one of the lucky ones to be slim at best.

Many reported waiting times of over an hour even though they had joined the queue before the fight for tickets had started. To make matters worse, dozens of seats appeared on tout sites yesterday afternoon for that very match, including VIP Hospitality tickets!

Many Elland Road regulars have vowed not to renew their membership after continually missing out week after week! Should the loyal Leeds fans who supported their club through the dark and gloomy periods of the Championship / League One have a preferential right to tickets, or should it be first come - first served?

    Is 55,000 capacity enough?

As we know, plans are underway to extend the capacity of Elland Road to circa 50,000 - 55,000, an increase of between 12,000 - 17,000 seats; but with a waiting list of 20,000 and growing, is it enough. Leeds are a one City club, and arguably the largest in Yorkshire. They have the potential to rival the red side of Manchester (74,140) if top flight success continuous on an upward curve!

Is a 55,000 capacity enough? Should Leeds have ambitions to build a state of the art Stadium from cratch, instead of tinkering with Elland Road?

Hay lays in Leeds bully boys

Leeds journalist Phil Hay has laid into Leeds fans following the online abuse of midfielder Mateusz Klich, and also took a swipe at a minority of fans who taunted Conor Gallagher during his recent encounter during Crystal Palace's visit to Elland Road. He describes the Polish International's 92 game streak as the 'shift from Hell', and suggests the Polish International may not have fully recovered from it.

"This is where you traditionally jump in and say it was a minority that was abusing Klich, an unrepresentative corner of the Leeds United fanbase who cannot avoid acting like children. Which is true. But it is always a minority because as with the homophobic chanting towards Conor Gallagher at Elland Road, if everyone was doing it then a club would be in an existential crisis. The numbers are irrelevant when someone like Klich is compelled to make himself scarce online. It has happened with Tyler Roberts too and it does not take much searching on Twitter to understand why they backed away."

"Klich can probably live with being called a c***. He can probably live with some of the other slurs too, pitying the ignorance. But why be present in a world of conversation where criticism is so thick and irrational? Klich was always a good sport on Twitter, a joker with no PR grease in sight, and he has been an incredibly easy player to relate to at Leeds."

"Ninety-two league games back-to-back — from the start of Bielsa’s Championship odyssey to the very end of it — was the shift from hell. Perhaps he is paying for it with some of his form since. He was the scorer of that first goal against Stoke City, the hungover face on the morning after promotion, the man who spray-painted “Champions” on a wall by Elland Road’s East Stand. Is this not a lasting friendship, safe against mistakes or falling influence?"

Myself and my son will be some of the one's not renewing. There was a problem getting tickets during the last season in the Championship, so what do the club do to alleviate the problem, sell an extra 10,000 memberships, you couldn't make it up. What will they do to help rhe situation, imo, absolutely nothing, perhaps some lip service from Kinnear. To me a simple solution would to be allow members who haven't yet managed to get tickets given priority for some games. My lad isn't much for watching footie on TV, he likes the live feel of games and I've taken him to a few FL games this season, he's now said sod it, let's just go to these games from now on.
We'd obviously sell out 55,000 in the premier League but if the worse happens, we'll be back to 30,000 and Kinnear will all of a sudden find it in his schedule to contact us wonderful fans to come along and support the team, such a shame he couldn't give a **** about us now.

On the membership and ticketing fiascoI have to say Leeds are not doing their part. Mentioned elsewhere on here that Leeds have some of the smartest minds in the big tech industry and should have insisted a couple of rewrites were done to their ticket software. Chad Hurley should show the software company how algorithms work and how to ensure fair distribution to members, otherwise membership is meaningless and just anotther route to enhance profit

Something really should be done about this.

My view is every fan who has bought a membership should have the opportunity to attend at least one game per season. Not sure how it would all work, but as the ticket office have everyones purchase history it shouldn't be that difficult to come up with a more equitable system.

For example; how would members feel if they could only buy tickets for 3 matches per season and then their account is restricted ? Once other members have had their opportunity the account is then unrestricted before they go on general sale. This could continue even when/if we've increased capacity to allow all members to attend at least some of the games and would make memberships worthwhile again.

Members would gamble trying to get tickets for the bigger games. But it would be much fairer to use a system. I for one would have kept mine on. I could never get full value from a season ticket so never had one.

    Pep on Bielsa:

"Still, I didn’t meet one guy, a former player from Marcelo Bielsa who speaks no good about him. They are grateful about his influence on their careers in football.

"We are judged by how much success we have, how many titles we have won. But that is much less influential than how he has influenced football and his football players. That is why, for me, he is the best coach in the world."

As of 2019, that had not changed.

"I love him as a human being," Guardiola said in April.

"He trained me when I was young in an incredible way. His success, I feel it like my success. Everyone who works with him is a better player, and the teams are better. That’s why he is a special manager and special person. I’m a supporter of Leeds, and hopefully next season they can be in the Premier League.

"It would be good for the Premier League. I admire him for being the Argentina manager and being at big clubs and have the humility to go in the Championship going to a historic team like Leeds, put them on top and back to the Premier League. I wish him all the best."

On Leeds United's promotion to the Premier League
"He has done an exceptional job," Guardiola said of the club’s promotion last July. "He is unique in world football because of the special way he plays. I learned a lot about his style, his final product. He’s an incredible person, so special."

Back in the bond days when we contributed to the building of the East stand, I had a season ticket because there was a discount for buying a bond. If only they had introduced the sell back scheme that they have today because at least your ticket wouldn't be wasted and someone else could buy it for the match.<ok>

Don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but I see the FA have charged the club for failing to control the players.<grr>

I thought it was regarding the handbags at the end of the game, but I think its for the players surrounding the ref when he gave the peno in injury time. <grr>

This stinks if Chelsea haven't been charged.

    upload_2021-12-14_13-43-53.gif upload_2021-12-14_13-43-53.gif upload_2021-12-14_13-43-53.gif

Leeds have been charged by the Football Association with failing to control their players following an injury-time incident in last weekend's 3-2 defeat at Chelsea.

The Leeds players reacted furiously after referee Chris Kavanagh awarded a late spot-kick when Mateusz Klich brought down Antonio Rudiger in the box.

It appears it is not related to the kerfuffle at the end of the game:

Leeds have been charged because their players surrounded referee Chris Kavanagh on the penalty award.

And yet other teams don't get charged when their players do the same thing.
